Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,661 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,661 m of the 3,353 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 925 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 29 at Darwin International Airport, also known as RAAF Darwin. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 150 kt. The takeoff distance was 984 meters, which is 29% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 °C and a wind speed of 12 kt from a direction of 280 °.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began to ascend from an initial altitude of 1,118 ft above sea level to a higher altitude of 2,316 ft. This climb of 1,198 ft took place over a distance of 3 nm in just 1 minute. The aircraft then leveled off at the higher altitude and continued on its enroute journey.
Later, the aircraft began its descent from the higher altitude of 2,316 ft to a lower altitude of 842 ft. This descent of 1,474 ft took place over a distance of 5 nm in 3 minutes. The aircraft then continued on its final approach to runway 29 at Darwin International Airport.
The final approach was made from the east, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 289.0 ° at an altitude of 739 ft above ground level and a distance of 2 nm from the runway threshold. The aircraft then touched down on the runway, with the touchdown point being 501 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 103 kt, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -295 fpm.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.2 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 29 °C and a wind speed of 14 kt from a direction of 280 °. The total landing distance was 1,572 meters, which is 47% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
In terms of the overall flight, the total distance traveled was 11 nm, and the flight took 6 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of 7,440 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at YPDN Darwin International Airport / RAAF Darwin, with a score of 85.8%. The final approach to runway 29 was initiated from the east, heading 289.0° at 2 nautical miles and 739 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,353 meters.
The threshold height at 71 feet agl was well above the target, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a safe altitude during the approach. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 125 knots, which may have been due to the aircraft's descent rate or the wind conditions. The touchdown point was 501 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance, but the touchdown speed of 103 knots was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and slow down effectively.
The touchdown rate of -295 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slight bounce or oscillation during the touchdown. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the crosswind or the pilot's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 29°C and a wind speed of 14 knots at 280°. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind was 13 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly above-target threshold speed.
The total landing distance was 1,572 meters, which is 47% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and align itself with the runway centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues with the threshold speed and touchdown rate.
