Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 953 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 953 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 716 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a quick taxi from the parking area to the runway, taking less than a minute and covering a distance of less than a nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk, then departed from runway 28 at KCDW Essex County Airport, with a takeoff distance of 422 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 59 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 269 degrees.
After departure, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting overhead KCDW Essex County Airport and lasting for 9 minutes, during which it covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The enroute climb began overhead Little Falls, New Jersey, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,219 feet above sea level to 2,117 feet, an increase of 898 feet, in 2 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles. The climb was followed by another level cruise, which started overhead Passaic, New Jersey, and lasted for 28 minutes, covering a distance of 15 nautical miles.
The flight then proceeded to land on runway 09 at KLDJ Linden Airport, which had a length of 953 meters. The threshold height was significantly above the target, and the threshold speed was excessively high at 88 knots. The touchdown point was very long, using more than 50% of the available runway, and the touchdown speed was 69 knots, which was considered fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -209 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 270 degrees, with a tailwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 915 meters, which accounted for 96% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centreline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking less than a minute and covering a distance of less than a nautical mile. The total flight distance was 22 nautical miles, and the flight lasted for 33 minutes, using 16 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna Skyhawk aircraft has landed at KLDJ Linden Airport, but the landing performance was not satisfactory. The aircraft scored 52.2%, indicating room for improvement. The landing was conducted on runway 09, which has a length of 953 meters. However, the threshold height at 97 feet above ground level (agl) was significantly above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach.
The threshold speed of 88 knots was excessively high, which could have contributed to the aircraft's long touchdown point. The touchdown point was indeed very long, using more than 50% of the available runway. This indicates that the aircraft may have been too fast during the approach, as the touchdown speed of 69 knots was also fast. The touchdown rate of -209 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, but not ideal.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centreline, which could have made the landing more challenging. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 270°. There was no crosswind, but a tailwind of 2 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's long touchdown point.
The total landing distance was 915 meters, which is 96% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft did not have enough runway to stop safely, and the pilot may have had to apply the brakes aggressively to avoid overshooting the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centreline, which could have made the landing more challenging.
Overall, the landing performance of the Cessna Skyhawk aircraft at KLDJ Linden Airport was not satisfactory. The aircraft's high threshold speed, fast touchdown speed, and long touchdown point all contributed to a challenging landing. The pilot may need to work on improving their approach and landing techniques to achieve a better score.
