Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,537 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,537 m of the 3,034 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 453 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LSZH Zürich Airport, a process that took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 28, with a takeoff distance of 1,758 meters, which accounted for 71% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 4°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the tailwind was 4 knots. The enroute climb began overhead Rumlang, a town in the Kanton Zurich region of Switzerland, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 2,597 feet above sea level to 36,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,412 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 165 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started overhead Chazey-sur-Ain, a town in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France, and lasted for 88 minutes, covering a distance of 601 nautical miles. The descent began 1 mile west of Milhao, a town in the Distrito de Braganca region of Portugal, where the aircraft descended from 35,932 feet above sea level to 1,265 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,667 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 111 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17 at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport was made from the north, heading 169.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,066 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 17 was successful, with a runway length of 3,034 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 142 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 455 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 134 knots. The touchdown rate was perfect at -35 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 14°C temperature and winds of 11 knots at 209 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 8 knots. The total landing distance was 1,449 meters, which accounted for 48% of the runway. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.6 meters from the centreline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 886 nautical miles, which was covered in 148 minutes, and the aircraft used 6,816 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at LPPR Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport, achieving a high score of 96.5%. The final approach to runway 17 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 169.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,066 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 142 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was evaluated, and it was noted that the touchdown distance was within acceptable limits at 455 meters. However, the touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate, which measures the rate at which the aircraft descends to the ground, was perfect at -35 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown alignment was also spot on, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and winds of 11 knots from a direction of 209°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing, as the aircraft was able to maintain control and land safely.
The total landing distance, which includes the distance from the threshold to the point where the aircraft came to a stop, was 1,449 meters. This represents 48% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.6 meters from the centerline, suggesting that the aircraft may have drifted slightly off course during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and handling characteristics. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and runway rollout alignment, which will need to be addressed in future training exercises.
