Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,773 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,773 m of the 2,560 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 894 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing Logan International Airport (KBOS) on runway 22R, the Airbus A320 began its takeoff roll, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 144 kt. The aircraft utilized 61% of the 1,320 m runway, clearing the ground with a smooth transition into the climb phase. Local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 9 °C and a headwind of 16 kt, which contributed to a relatively short takeoff distance.
As the aircraft climbed to its enroute cruise altitude, it passed overhead the MA17 Avco/Lowell Heliport in Lowell, Massachusetts, marking the beginning of the enroute climb phase. The aircraft ascended from 1,044 ft to 22,041 ft in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 66 nm. Following a brief level cruise phase, which lasted 21 minutes and covered 73 nm, the aircraft initiated its descent from 22,020 ft to 1,375 ft in 16 minutes, covering 63 nm. The final approach to runway 22L at John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK) was conducted from the north east, with the aircraft aligning with the runway at 4 nm and 1,355 ft above ground level.
The landing on runway 22L was executed with a threshold speed of 150 kt, which was above the target speed. However, the touchdown speed of 133 kt was slightly fast, and the touchdown point was 479 m beyond the touchdown zone. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.4 m from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 15.5 m from the centreline. The total landing distance was 1,693 m, accounting for 66% of the 2,560 m runway. Following a taxiing period of 5 minutes, the aircraft arrived at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 213 nm and utilizing 2,351 kg of fuel.
The aircraft, an Airbus A320, initiated its final approach to runway 22L at KJFK John F Kennedy International Airport from the north east, aligning with the heading of 211.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,355 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was significantly above the target, reaching 150 knots, which may have been a result of the prevailing wind conditions. The wind was blowing at 13 knots from 190°, resulting in a 5-knot crosswind and a 12-knot headwind.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft touched down 479 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a speed of 133 knots, which was slightly faster than the desired touchdown speed. The touchdown rate, however, was good, at -186 feet per minute. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 14.4 meters from the centreline, which may have been a result of the crosswind. The total landing distance was 1,693 meters, accounting for 66% of the runway length.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft remained misaligned from the centreline, deviating by 15.5 meters. Despite this, the overall landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 85.1%. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 13 knots, may have contributed to the deviations from the desired performance.
