Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline, wings not level and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,732 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 590 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Lieutenant Étienne Mantoux Air Base, taking approximately 3 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 01, with a takeoff distance of 280 meters, which accounted for 16% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 110 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 2°C temperature and winds of 26 knots at 55 degrees. The crosswind was 17 knots, while the headwind was 19 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile southwest of Dommary-Baroncourt, France, where the aircraft climbed from 1,798 feet above sea level to 2,333 feet, an increase of 534 feet in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Dommary-Baroncourt and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then initiated another enroute climb, this time 2 miles south of Norroy-le-Sec, France, where it climbed from 2,115 feet to 23,615 feet, an increase of 21,500 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 55 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 1 mile southeast of Domjevin, France, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 80 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent overhead Frick, Switzerland, where it descended from 24,117 feet to 12,140 feet, a decrease of 11,977 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 3 miles southeast of Spluegen, Switzerland, and lasted for 10 minutes, covering a distance of 18 nautical miles. The aircraft then initiated its final descent 1 mile northwest of Celerina, Switzerland, where it descended from 12,470 feet to 6,210 feet, a decrease of 6,260 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 03 at Samedan Airport took place from the southwest, with the aircraft heading at 31.0 degrees at 0 nautical miles and 564 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 03 took place at a speed of 104 knots, which was higher than the target speed. The touchdown point was 154 meters beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown speed of 78 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -84 feet per minute was excellent.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were -5°C temperature and winds of 12 knots at 10 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 11 knots. The total landing distance was 792 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in 2 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 247 nautical miles, taking approximately 73 minutes, and the aircraft used 265 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet has successfully landed at LSZS Samedan Airport, achieving a score of 92.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 31.0° at an altitude of 564 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The final approach was executed with precision, setting the stage for a smooth touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 154 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal spot. However, the touchdown speed of 78 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating that the pilot maintained control and managed the descent effectively. The touchdown rate of -84 feet per minute (fpm) was also excellent, demonstrating a high degree of precision and control.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -5°C and a wind speed of 12 knots at 10°. The crosswind component was relatively low at 4 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The runway length at LSZS Samedan Airport is 1,732 meters, and the total landing distance of 792 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and alignment during the rollout phase. Overall, the Vision Jet's landing at LSZS Samedan Airport was a success, with the pilot demonstrating a high degree of skill and precision in executing the landing.
