MY FS FLIGHTS

Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,517 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,851 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Vision Jet, then departed from runway 25 at VOMM Chennai International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,595 feet, which accounted for 13% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 100 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,066 feet above sea level to 30,762 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,696 feet, in 25 minutes and covering a distance of 88 nautical miles.
The enroute climb started overhead VOMM Chennai International Airport and continued until the aircraft reached a cruising altitude. The enroute level cruise started 17 miles northwest of Gudur, in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, and lasted for 65 minutes, covering a distance of 313 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 9 miles northwest of Sirpur, in the state of Telangana, India. The descent from 31,272 feet above sea level to 2,304 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,968 feet, took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 88 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 32 at VANP Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport was made from the southeast, heading 323.0 degrees, at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 32 was characterized by a threshold height that was slightly above the target, and a threshold speed that was excessively high at 98 knots. The touchdown point was 436 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 80 knots, which was fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -111 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 10 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The total landing distance was 2,719 feet, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The flight then ended with taxiing to the parking from the runway, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 497 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 126 minutes. The aircraft used 814 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet has successfully landed at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, achieving a score of 95.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 323.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 32, which has a length of 10,517 feet. However, the threshold height at 56 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing height. The threshold speed was excessively high at 98 knots, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to reduce the speed further to achieve a more optimal landing.
The touchdown point was located 436 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively significant distance. The touchdown speed of 80 knots was also faster than the ideal speed, contributing to the extended touchdown distance. Despite these deviations, the touchdown rate was smooth at -111 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 81°F and a wind speed of 8 knots at 10°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance was 2,719 feet, which is 26% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing process.
Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the Vision Jet's landing at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and handling of the aircraft.
