Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,691 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,691 m of the 2,897 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 550 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took approximately 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles.
As the aircraft departed from runway 06R at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport, it achieved a liftoff speed of 152 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots at 59 degrees. The aircraft's takeoff distance was 1,478 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway length.
Following departure, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport. The climb phase saw the aircraft ascend from an initial altitude of 1,039 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 34,087 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,049 feet in 17 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 67 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began 12 miles northwest of Cala de Portinatx and lasted for 31 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 199 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent phase, which started 3 miles west of Chirivel and saw the aircraft descend from 34,514 feet above sea level to 6,499 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,015 feet in 17 minutes. This descent phase covered a distance of 85 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles northwest of Huetor-Tajar and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. This was followed by another descent phase, which began 1 mile north of Loja and saw the aircraft descend from 6,109 feet above sea level to 3,136 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,974 feet in 4 minutes. This final descent phase covered a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 09 at LEGR F.G.L. Airport Granada-Jaén Airport, approaching from the west at a heading of 89.0 degrees. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 200 degrees.
The aircraft landed on runway 09, with a touchdown point located 128 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 127 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was perfect at 29 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.6 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,605 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway length.
Following landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 378 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 88 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 3,098 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LEGR F.G.L. Airport Granada-Jaén Airport, achieving a high score of 97.5%. The final approach to runway 09 was conducted from the west, with a heading of 89.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level.
The aircraft's performance during the landing was impressive, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 137 knots. The touchdown point was 128 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 127 knots was also within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of 29 feet per minute was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were mild, with a temperature of 7°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind component was minimal at 4 knots, while the tailwind component was negligible at 1 knot. These favorable weather conditions likely contributed to the successful landing.
The total landing distance of 1,605 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the plane to a stop.
Overall, the landing of Vueling EC-MGZ at LEGR F.G.L. Airport Granada-Jaén Airport was a textbook example of a well-executed landing, with the aircraft's crew demonstrating excellent piloting skills and a high degree of situational awareness.
