Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 511 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Paderborn Lippstadt Airport, taking 9 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 24, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 153 knots after covering 69% of the runway's length.
As the aircraft climbed to a height of 6,980 meters above sea level, it covered a distance of 46 nautical miles in 10 minutes, increasing its altitude by 6,451.6 meters. The enroute climb started 1 mile south west of Paderborn Lippstadt Airport and continued until the aircraft reached its cruising altitude.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, lasting 9 minutes and covering a distance of 64 nautical miles. This was followed by a descent from 7,009 meters above sea level to 1,270 meters above sea level, a decrease of 5,738.6 meters in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 61 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. However, this was short-lived, as the aircraft began its descent from 1,214 meters above sea level to 990 meters above sea level, a decrease of 222.9 meters in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then climbed from 987 meters above sea level to 1,378 meters above sea level, an increase of 391.5 meters in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. This was followed by another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 1,523 meters above sea level to 1,314 meters above sea level, a decrease of 208.3 meters in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. This was followed by another level cruise, lasting 2 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
However, the aircraft then began its descent from 1,219 meters above sea level to 727 meters above sea level, a decrease of 491.2 meters in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered its final approach to runway 28 at Nuremberg Airport, flying from the east at a heading of 278.0 degrees and 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft landed on runway 28, with a touchdown point 89 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -0.5 meters per second. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.4 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,335 meters, which was 50% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxiied to the parking from the runway, taking 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 216 nautical miles, taking 60 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,602 kilograms of fuel. The local weather conditions during the flight were characterized by a temperature of 3°C at Paderborn Lippstadt Airport and 4°C at Nuremberg Airport.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Nuremberg Airport (EDDN) with a score of 97.8%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 278.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 408.6 meters above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 28, which has a length of 2,693 meters.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 129 knots. The touchdown point was 89 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 125 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -0.5 meters per second was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.4 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments during the landing roll. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C, which may have affected the aircraft's performance.
The total landing distance of 1,335 meters was 50% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop. Overall, the landing was successful, with only minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters.
