Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,599 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 409 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the departure roll from runway 20 at EGHI Southampton Airport. The aircraft, Sirius, took off with a takeoff distance of 224 meters, which accounted for 14% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 70 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots at 203 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 10 knots.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand pattern from runway 20, it covered a distance of 1 nautical mile in 19 seconds. The subsequent left-hand pattern crosswind leg was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 24 seconds. The pattern downwind turn involved a distance of 1 nautical mile and an angle to the runway of 46.2 degrees. The downwind leg itself covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 84 seconds.
The pattern base leg turn required a distance of 1 nautical mile and an angle to the runway of 44.4 degrees. The base leg itself was completed in less than 1 nautical mile in 41 seconds. The final turn was the shortest, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in just 3 seconds. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 20 from the north, heading at 200 degrees and at an altitude of 177 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 20 was successful, with the threshold height being good and the threshold speed slightly below the target at 51 knots. The touchdown distance was 406 meters, which was considered good. The touchdown speed was 35 knots, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -28 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect. The total landing distance was 628 meters, accounting for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
In terms of fuel consumption, the total flight distance was 7 nautical miles, which was covered in 5 minutes. The aircraft used 6 kilograms of fuel during the flight. Overall, the flight was characterized by good weather conditions, precise navigation, and a successful landing.
The aircraft, identified as Sirius, successfully landed at EGHI Southampton Airport, achieving a high score of 95.9%. The final approach to runway 20 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 200.0° at an altitude of 177 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 51 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed. However, this did not affect the overall performance of the landing, as the touchdown distance of 406 meters was considered good. The touchdown speed of 35 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -28 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 203°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 10 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The runway length of 1,599 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance, and the total landing distance of 628 meters was only 39% of the runway length.
The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and landing phases.
