Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,733 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 581 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The ATR 72 taxied from the parking area to runway 10 at TTPP Piarco International Airport. The taxi-out required 6 minutes and covered 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 10, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 119 kt. Takeoff distance was recorded as 1,466 m, representing 46 % of the runway length. Local weather at the time was 30 °C with a wind of 13 kt from 090°, giving a headwind component of 13 kt and a crosswind component of 0 kt.
Climb commenced 1 mile east of TTPP, with the aircraft ascending from 1,011 ft asl to 11,455 ft asl. The altitude gain of 10,444 ft was achieved in 8 minutes while covering 26 nm.
Level cruise began 17 nm north of Port of Spain and continued for 9 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 38 nm at a constant altitude.
Descent started 28 nm south of TGPY Maurice Bishop International Airport, with the aircraft descending from 11,134 ft asl to 1,353 ft asl. The loss of 9,781 ft occurred over 9 minutes and a distance of 37 nm.
The final approach to runway 10 at TGPY was executed from the west, on a heading of 89.0°, at 4 nm from the threshold and 1,306 ft agl.
Landing on runway 10 was completed with a threshold speed of 119 kt. Touchdown occurred 157 m beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 107 kt, and the vertical speed at touchdown was minus 97 fpm. Runway alignment was perfect. Local conditions were 29 °C with a wind of 17 kt from 120°, providing a headwind component of 15 kt and a crosswind component of 8 kt.
The total landing distance measured 1,145 m, equivalent to 42 % of the runway length, and rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration phase.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In summary, the flight covered a total of 109 nm, required 35 minutes from departure to arrival, and consumed 436 kg of fuel.
The aircraft approached runway 10 on a heading of 89.0° from the west, intercepting the final approach at 4 nm and 1,306 ft agl. Local conditions were 29 °C with a wind of 17 kt from 120°, giving a 15 kt headwind component and an 8 kt cross-wind component. The approach was stabilized on the centreline and the aircraft remained on the glide path to the threshold.
At threshold the height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was too high at 119 kt. The flare began from this speed and the aircraft transitioned to the landing attitude in accordance with the observed parameters.
Touchdown occurred 157 m beyond the designated touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 107 kt, while the vertical rate was excellent at minus 97 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the aircraft settled on the runway within the expected parameters.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,145 m, representing 42 % of the 2,733 m runway length. Runway rollout alignment remained perfect throughout the deceleration phase.
Reduce the threshold speed to bring the approach closer to the target VREF and adjust the flare to achieve touchdown within the intended zone, aiming for the standard aim point approximately 300 m from the threshold. These refinements will tighten the touchdown point while preserving the excellent vertical rate already demonstrated.
