Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,820 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,820 m of the 3,516 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,027 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 750 Citation X taxied from the parking area to runway 25 at KDEN, a movement that required 10 minutes and covered 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 25, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 135 kt and left the ground after traveling 1,308 m, representing 36 % of the runway length; ambient temperature was 40 °C with a wind of 20 kt from 199°, a cross-wind component of 19 kt and a head-wind component of 7 kt.
Climb commenced 2 miles southwest of KDEN, with the jet climbing from 6,393 ft asl to 36,930 ft asl, an altitude gain of 30,537 ft achieved in 16 minutes while covering 96 nm.
Level cruise began 6 miles north of Eagle, Colorado, and was maintained for 76 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 617 nm.
Descent was initiated 6 miles north of El Portal, California, descending from 37,003 ft asl to 1,320 ft asl, a loss of 35,683 ft over 23 minutes and a distance of 121 nm.
The final approach to runway 28R at KSFO was flown from the southeast, on a heading of 298.0° at 4 nm and 1,302 ft agl.
Landing on runway 28R occurred with a runway length of 3,516 m; the threshold height was 88 ft agl and the threshold speed was 120 kt. Touchdown was recorded 514 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 103 kt, with a vertical rate of minus 210 fpm and a lateral deviation of 9.7 m from the centreline. Local weather reported a temperature of 21 °C, wind 22 kt from 280°, a cross-wind of 7 kt and a head-wind of 21 kt. The total landing distance measured 1,643 m, equal to 47 % of the runway.
Rollout continued along runway 28R, with the aircraft’s alignment remaining slightly off centreline by 11.5 m and the distance traveled on the ground matching the reported landing distance.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 845 nm, required 129 (units as given) and consumed 1,813 kg of fuel.
The Cessna 750 Citation X, scoring 80.2 % overall, entered the final approach to runway 28R at KSFO from the southeast on a heading of 298.0° while 4 nm out and 1,302 ft AGL; ambient temperature was 21 °C with wind 22 kt from 280°, giving a 7 kt cross-wind component and a 21 kt head-wind.
At the threshold the aircraft was 88 ft AGL, which was significantly above the target height, and the threshold speed was recorded as good at 120 kt.
Touchdown occurred 514 m beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a good speed of 103 kt and a fair descent rate of minus 210 fpm; the touchdown point was misaligned by 9.7 m from the centreline and the total landing distance measured 1,643 m, representing 47 % of the 3,516 m runway.
During rollout the aircraft remained slightly off the centreline, deviating 11.5 m from centreline.
Refine the approach to achieve the correct threshold height and concentrate on maintaining centreline alignment through touchdown and rollout to reduce the lateral deviations observed.
