Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,822 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,822 ft of the 13,077 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,097 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 31R at LFML Marseille Provence Airport, covering 1 nm in 8 minutes.
The Airbus A319 commenced its departure roll on runway 31R, using a takeoff distance of 3,115 ft (33 % of runway). Liftoff was achieved at 153 kt. Local weather reported temperature 75 °F, wind 3 kt from 130°, a 3 kt tailwind component and no cross-wind.
Climb began 1 mile northwest of LFML, ascending from 975 ft asl to 35,710 ft asl, a gain of 34,735 ft over 17 minutes while covering 108 nm.
Level cruise started 1 mile southeast of Satillieu and continued for 15 minutes, covering 108 nm.
A subsequent climb over Reyvroz raised the aircraft from 36,010 ft asl to 36,737 ft asl, an increase of 727 ft in 2 minutes and 11 nm.
Descent over Chexbres reduced altitude from 36,670 ft asl to 35,980 ft asl, a loss of 690 ft in 2 minutes across 11 nm.
The aircraft then cruised level over Vaulruz for 17 minutes, traversing 121 nm.
Descent over Renquishausen dropped the aircraft from 36,004 ft asl to 10,007 ft asl, a decrease of 25,997 ft in 15 minutes and 91 nm.
A brief cruise 3 miles east of Kirchzell lasted 2 minutes, covering 7 nm.
Descent over Burgstadt lowered the aircraft from 9,960 ft asl to 4,987 ft asl, a loss of 4,972 ft in 3 minutes over 15 nm.
Level flight 1 mile east of Schaafheim continued for 2 minutes, covering 6 nm.
Descent over EDSS Zellhausen Gliderport Seligenstadt reduced altitude from 4,648 ft asl to 1,595 ft asl, a loss of 3,053 ft in 4 minutes across 12 nm.
Final approach to runway 25L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport descended from 1,286 ft agl to 79 ft agl in 103 seconds, with the aircraft scoring on the stabilisation gates.
The aircraft landed on runway 25L, whose length is 13,077 ft. Threshold speed was slightly above target at 141 kt, while touchdown speed was 129 kt. Touchdown occurred 728 ft beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown rate of minus 208 fpm. Total landing distance was 5,553 ft, representing 42 % of the runway. Local weather at Frankfurt reported temperature 67 °F, wind 3 kt from 240°, a 3 kt headwind and no cross-wind.
Runway rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, covering less than 1 nm in 4 minutes.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 499 nm, took 92, and consumed 7,423 lbs of fuel.
The approach to runway 25L at EDDF Frankfurt was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits. The aircraft descended from 1,286 ft AGL to 79 ft AGL in 103 seconds on a final approach that met the stabilisation gates.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was slightly above target at 141 kt.
Touchdown occurred 728 ft beyond the touchdown zone with a touchdown speed of 129 kt, described as a little fast, and a touchdown rate of minus 208 fpm, rated fair. Runway touchdown alignment was very good and the local weather was 67 °F with a 3-kt wind from 240°, zero crosswind and a 3-kt headwind.
The total landing distance was 5,553 ft, representing 42 % of the 13,077-ft runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Minor refinements should focus on reducing the threshold and touchdown speeds to the target values and aiming for a touchdown point closer to the designated zone to further optimise runway usage.
