Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,055 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,055 m of the 2,744 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,234 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 24R at LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,071 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 19°C, wind at 11 knots from 230°, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started enroute climb 1 mile west of LEPA Palma de Mallorca Airport, rising from 1,028 feet above sea level to 37,487 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,459 feet in 21 minutes, covering 118 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise began 1 mile west of La Granada, Spain, and lasted 54 minutes, covering 410 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent overhead Courbeveille, France, descending from 36,735 feet above sea level to 18,428 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,306 feet in 19 minutes, covering 137 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 23 miles south east of Ventnor, Isle of Wight, England, and lasted 5 minutes, covering 32 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile south east of Chichester, England, descending from 18,262 feet above sea level to 1,582 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,680 feet in 15 minutes, covering 69 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04 at EGSS London Stansted Airport was made from the south west, heading 43.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,228 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on runway 04, which had a length of 2,744 meters. The threshold height was significantly above the target, while the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 144 knots. The touchdown point was 746 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 132 knots and a smooth touchdown rate of -114 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.0 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.5 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, wind at 12 knots from 120°, with a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,903 meters, which accounted for 69% of the runway.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 774 nautical miles, taking 122 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,768 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at EGSS London Stansted Airport, achieving an overall score of 80.2%. The final approach to runway 04 was initiated from the south west, with a heading of 43.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,228 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 132 knots, which was within the target range. The touchdown rate was also smooth, at -114 feet per minute (fpm). However, the touchdown point was located 746 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot.
The threshold height at 82 feet agl was significantly above the target, while the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 144 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of landing included a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 120°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,903 meters, which accounted for 69% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline, by 10.5 meters. Despite these minor deviations, the overall landing performance of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft was satisfactory, with a smooth touchdown rate and a relatively short landing distance.
