Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,294 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 508 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320 taxied from the parking area to runway 06 at FZAA Ndjili International Airport, a movement that lasted 8 minutes and covered 2 nm.
The departure roll on runway 06 accelerated the aircraft to a liftoff speed of 170 kt, using a takeoff distance of 2,625 m (80 % of the runway). Local weather was temperature 19 °C, wind 2 kt from 269 °, crosswind 1 kt and tailwind 2 kt.
Climb commenced about 1 mile north-east of FZAA, with the A320 climbing from 2,023 ft asl to 6,009 ft asl, an altitude gain of 3,986 ft achieved in 3 minutes while covering 13 nm.
Descent began roughly 3 miles south of Kinshasa, descending from 6,010 ft asl to 2,375 ft asl, a loss of 3,635 ft over 4 minutes and a distance of 16 nm.
The final approach to runway 05 at FCBB Maya-Maya Airport was flown from the south-west on a heading of 50.0 ° at 4 nm and 1,326 ft agl.
Touchdown occurred on runway 05, whose length is 3,294 m; the threshold height of 58 ft agl and threshold speed of 144 kt were slightly above target. The aircraft contacted the runway 98 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 136 kt, with a firm touchdown rate of minus 371 fpm and very good alignment. Local weather at the time was temperature 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 270 °, crosswind 1 kt and tailwind 2 kt.
The total landing distance recorded was 1,159 m, representing 35 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment remained very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered a distance of 38 nm, required 16 (as reported) and consumed 684 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05 at FCBB Maya-Maya Airport was flown from the south-west on a heading of 50.0° at 4 nm and 1,326 ft agl, with temperature 15 °C, wind 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt tail-wind component.
At the threshold the height was 58 ft agl, which was slightly above target, and the threshold speed was 144 kt, also slightly above target.
Touchdown occurred 98 m beyond the touchdown zone with a speed of 136 kt, described as a little fast, and the aircraft settled at a firm rate of minus 371 fpm; runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The aircraft rolled out over a total landing distance of 1,159 m, representing 35 % of the 3,294 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
Refine the flare to achieve touchdown within the designated zone and reduce speed to the target range, which will further improve touchdown placement and rate. Adjust speed management on final to keep the threshold speed on target, ensuring a smoother transition to the flare.
