Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 392 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Manchester Airport, the Airbus A321 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. As the aircraft reached the runway threshold, it initiated its departure roll on runway 23R, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 150 knots. The takeoff distance of 924 meters accounted for 38% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 14°C, with a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 239°, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 15-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from Manchester Airport, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 1,192 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 33,008 feet. This climb phase covered a distance of 175 nautical miles and took 22 minutes to complete. Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 23 minutes and covered a distance of 210 nautical miles. The cruise phase was interrupted by a series of descents, with the first descent starting 1 mile north-east of Jemgum, Germany, and the final descent initiated over Bad Oldesloe, Germany. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 23 at Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, aligning itself with the runway from the north-east.
The Airbus A321 touched down on runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, with a touchdown distance of 394 meters and a speed of 136 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -357 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The total landing distance of 1,305 meters accounted for 47% of the available runway length. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance of 531 nautical miles was completed in 95 minutes, with the aircraft consuming 4,644 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft touched down on runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport with a firm touchdown rate of -357 fpm, slightly above the target speed of 136 kt. The touchdown speed was a little fast, but the aircraft maintained good control throughout the landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway.
The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed that was slightly above the target at 142 kt. The touchdown distance of 394 m was good, and the total landing distance of 1,305 m was 47% of the runway length. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 8 °C and a headwind of 22 kt, presented a challenging environment for the landing. However, the aircraft handled the conditions well, with a crosswind of 4 kt and a wind direction of 220 °.
The rollout phase was flawless, with perfect alignment on the runway centerline. The overall performance of the aircraft was impressive, with a score of 98.5%. The pilot's skill and experience were evident throughout the landing, and the aircraft's handling characteristics were well-suited to the challenging weather conditions.
