Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,041 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 317 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 13 at KLGA, a movement that lasted 5 minutes and covered 1 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 13, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 152 kt and left the ground after traveling a takeoff distance of 1,413 m, which represented 66 % of the runway. Local weather at the time was 21 °C with wind 11 kt from 49°, giving a crosswind component of 11 kt and a headwind component of 3 kt.
Climb commenced overhead FLU (Flushing, New York) and the airplane rose from 985 ft asl to 31,996 ft asl, an increase of 31,011 ft achieved in 31 minutes while covering 193 nm.
The first cruise segment began 4 miles north of 2PN1 (Malco Airport, Westfield, PA) and continued for 90 minutes, during which 630 nm were flown.
Descent started over 3WI9 (Rosenbaum Field, Chippewa Falls, WI), with the aircraft descending from 31,999 ft asl to 4,011 ft asl, a loss of 27,988 ft in 20 minutes while covering 104 nm.
A brief cruise followed, initiating 1 mile north-east of Long Lake (MN) and lasting 2 minutes, during which 5 nm were traversed.
Subsequent descent began 1 mile south-west of Medicine Lake (MN), with altitude decreasing from 3,989 ft asl to 2,172 ft asl, a reduction of 1,816 ft in 2 minutes and a distance of 6 nm.
Final approach to runway 12R at KMSP proceeded from 1,375 ft agl to 31 ft agl in 95 seconds, and the aircraft was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Landing on runway 12R (runway length 3,041 m) was executed with a threshold speed of 148 kt. Touchdown occurred 320 m down the runway at a speed of 145 kt; the vertical speed at touchdown was minus 187 fpm and runway alignment was perfect. Weather at the airport was 17 °C with wind 10 kt from 60°, providing a crosswind component of 9 kt and a headwind component of 5 kt.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,359 m, representing 45 % of the runway, and alignment remained perfect throughout the ground run.
Taxi-in to the parking area from the runway required 1 minute and covered less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 946 nm, lasted 154 minutes, and consumed 7,956 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 executed a stabilised approach to runway 12R at KMSP, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope, centreline and speed all within limits as assessed at the 1,000 ft gate. The aircraft descended from 1,375 ft AGL to 31 ft AGL in 95 seconds, maintaining the required parameters throughout the final approach.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was good at 148 kt, indicating an appropriate flare initiation and continuation through the flare segment.
Touchdown occurred 320 m down the runway, with a touchdown speed of 145 kt that was a little fast and a touchdown rate of minus 187 fpm, both described as good. Runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The aircraft rolled out over a total landing distance of 1,359 m, representing 45 % of the 3,041 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
With a score of 99.6 % the landing was excellent; a minor refinement would be to reduce touchdown speed slightly to bring it closer to the target, which will further optimise the flare and touchdown point.
