Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed below the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: speed below the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,545 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,545 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 542 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Orlando International Airport, the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the designated runway, 35L, which took approximately 12 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As the aircraft reached the runway threshold, it initiated its departure roll, utilizing 47% of the available runway length to achieve liftoff at a speed of 150 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 31°C, with a gentle tailwind of 14 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it transitioned into an enroute climb, ascending from 1,060 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 33,981 feet, an increase of 32,922 feet in just 18 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 115 nautical miles, positioning the aircraft for its enroute level cruise. The cruise phase, which lasted 20 minutes, saw the aircraft maintain a steady altitude while covering a distance of 144 nautical miles, approximately 1 mile south of Jacksonville, Florida. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, reducing its altitude from 33,979 feet to 7,118 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 127 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its descent, it transitioned into a series of level cruises, the first of which lasted just 2 minutes and covered 6 nautical miles, approximately 2 miles south-west of the Lyons Landing Airport. The final descent phase saw the aircraft reduce its altitude from 6,979 feet to 2,406 feet in just 5 minutes, covering a distance of 17 nautical miles. The aircraft then aligned itself for its final approach to runway 09R at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, touching down 120 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 119 knots. The total landing distance was 1,458 meters, or 53% of the available runway length. Following a firm touchdown, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 6 minutes to cover a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 419 nautical miles, with a total fuel consumption of 3,571 kilograms and a flight duration of 88 minutes.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 09R at KATL Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a threshold speed of 131 kt, slightly below the target. The aircraft maintained a good touchdown speed of 119 kt, and the touchdown rate was firm at -368 fpm. However, the touchdown point was 120 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot. The approach quality was good, with a threshold height that met expectations.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's centreline alignment was significantly off, deviating by 17.6 m from the centreline. This misalignment persisted during the rollout phase, with the aircraft remaining 16.4 m off-centreline. The total landing distance of 1,458 m was 53% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 21 °C and a 10 kt wind at 120 °, contributed to a relatively calm environment.
The landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 88.0%. However, the significant misalignment during the rollout phase and the over-shoot of the touchdown zone detracted from the overall performance. The headwind of 9 kt and crosswind of 5 kt did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing. Overall, the landing was acceptable, but there is room for improvement in terms of centreline alignment and touchdown zone accuracy.
