Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,554 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,554 m of the 3,024 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 382 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, then departed from runway 12L at Dubai International Airport (OMDB). The takeoff distance was 1,892 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 170 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 41°C temperature and winds of 7 knots at 90°. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 6 knots. After departing from Dubai, the enroute climb started 1 mile south east of the airport, where the aircraft climbed from 1,047 feet above sea level to 37,732 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,685 feet in 18 minutes and covering 114 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 47 miles north east of Das Island Airport (OMAS) and lasted 49 minutes, covering 385 nautical miles. The aircraft then started another enroute climb 1 mile west of Umm Qasr, where it climbed from 37,723 feet to 39,313 feet, an increase of 1,590 feet in 2 minutes and covering 13 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 4 miles north east of Safwan Airport (OR1M) and lasted 134 minutes, covering 998 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it started an enroute descent 8 miles south east of Bolu, Turkey, where it descended from 39,368 feet to 11,394 feet, a decrease of 27,974 feet in 19 minutes and covering 104 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again 8 miles east of Sultanbeyli and lasted 3 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles. The enroute descent resumed 11 miles north east of Umraniye, where it descended from 11,386 feet to 4,074 feet, a decrease of 7,311 feet in 7 minutes and covering 26 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started once more 2 miles south west of İstanbul Atatürk Airport (LTBA) and lasted 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles. The enroute descent began again 2 miles south west of Basaksehir, where it descended from 4,069 feet to 1,587 feet, a decrease of 2,482 feet in 3 minutes and covering 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 36 at İstanbul Airport (LTFM) was made from the south, heading 359.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,350 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 382 meters and a touchdown speed of 135 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was good at -184 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.1 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 25°C temperature and winds of 13 knots at 60°. The crosswind was 12 knots, while the headwind was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,475 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking from the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,678 nautical miles, taking 257 minutes and using 29,047 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at LTFM İstanbul Airport, achieving a high score of 99.4%. The final approach to runway 36 was conducted from the south, with the aircraft heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,350 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The threshold speed of 139 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the landing phase. The touchdown distance of 382 meters was also satisfactory, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled approach.
However, the touchdown speed of 135 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have resulted in a slightly higher touchdown rate. Fortunately, the touchdown rate of -184 feet per minute (fpm) was still within the acceptable range, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown without any issues.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.1 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final approach. However, this deviation did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 13 knots at 60°. The crosswind component was 12 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. These conditions were well within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
The total landing distance of 1,475 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a safe stop.
Overall, the landing performance of the Boeing 777-300 aircraft at LTFM İstanbul Airport was satisfactory, with a high score of 99.4%. The pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the final approach and landing phases, and the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown without any issues.
