Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,237 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,237 m of the 3,595 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,148 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at UBBB Heydar Aliyev International Airport, which took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 17, with a takeoff distance of 1,559 meters, which is 47% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 155 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 9°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 149°.
As the aircraft climbed, it started enroute climb 1 mile west of Biny Selo, a suburb of Baku City, Azerbaijan. The climb was from an altitude of 998 feet above sea level to 35,891 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,894 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 155 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 35 miles northeast of Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh, a city in Gilan Province, Iran, and lasted for 45 minutes, covering a distance of 675 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 3 miles north of OIBV Lavan Airport, located in Hormozgan Province, Iran. The descent was from an altitude of 37,360 feet above sea level to 10,067 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,293 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 128 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 15 miles northwest of Sharjah, a city in Ash Shariqah, United Arab Emirates, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 6 miles west of Sharjah, and the descent was from an altitude of 10,060 feet above sea level to 2,442 feet above sea level, a decrease of 7,618 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 31 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 12 miles south of Adh Dhayd, a city in Ash Shariqah, United Arab Emirates, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 30L at OMDB Dubai International Airport was from the southeast, heading 301.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,310 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 30L, which has a length of 3,595 meters, was successful, with the threshold height being well above the target and the threshold speed being good at 139 knots.
The touchdown point was 732 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 133 knots, which was good, and a touchdown rate of -131 feet per minute, which was smooth. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 230°.
The total landing distance was 2,156 meters, which is 60% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.8 meters from the centerline. Taxiing to the parking from the runway took 9 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,026 nautical miles, taking 111 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,813 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 30L at Dubai International Airport (OMDB) with a score of 81.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 301.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,310 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a good threshold speed of 139 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 732 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. However, the touchdown speed of 133 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -131 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the off-center touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from 230°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,156 meters was 60% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.8 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the off-center touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered good, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown position and rollout alignment.
