Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,416 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 702 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied from the parking area to runway 24R at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, a taxi-out that lasted 16 minutes and covered 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 24R, the takeoff run measured 3,477 ft, representing 32 % of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off at 153 kt. Local weather at the time was 77 °F with a wind of 9 kt from 280°, including a 4 kt crosswind and a 7 kt headwind.
Climb commenced overhead the departure airport, climbing from 1,064 ft asl to 37,799 ft asl - an increase of 36,735 ft - in 26 minutes while covering 181 nm.
Level cruise began 1 mile south of EDVG Mengeringhausen Airfield and continued for 82 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 629 nm.
Descent started 3 miles south-west of Babeau, descending from 37,999 ft asl to 1,534 ft asl - a loss of 36,465 ft - in 25 minutes and covering 132 nm.
The final approach to runway 24R at Barcelona-El Prat Airport was executed from the north-east, on a heading of 245.0°, at 4 nm and 1,518 ft agl.
Landing on runway 24R, which is 11,416 ft long, occurred with a threshold speed of 129 kt. Touchdown was achieved at 699 ft down the runway, at a speed of 127 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 244 fpm and perfect runway-touchdown alignment. Weather at the destination was 73 °F with a wind of 8 kt from 280°, including a 5 kt crosswind and a 7 kt headwind.
The total landing roll measured 3,349 ft, equivalent to 29 % of the runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 952 nm, took 154 minutes, and consumed 13,787 lbs of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800, scored 97.6 %, executed the final approach to runway 24R at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport from the north-east on a heading of 245.0° at 4 nm and 1,518 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At the threshold the runway measured 11,416 ft and the threshold height was reported as good. The threshold speed was slightly below target at 129 kt.
Touchdown occurred 699 ft down the runway with a speed of 127 kt, both described as good. The touchdown rate was fair at minus 244 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The total landing distance was 3,349 ft, representing 29 % of the runway, and rollout alignment remained perfect.
Maintain the target threshold speed by fine-tuning the approach configuration and monitor sink rate to keep the descent rate within the optimal band, which will further improve the already high score.
