Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,251 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,251 m of the 4,095 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 429 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 20R at KSNA John Wayne Orange County International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,403 meters, which accounted for 81% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 240 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb approximately 1 mile southwest of KSNA John Wayne Orange County International Airport, Santa Ana, California. The climb started from an altitude of 1,078 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 35,160 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,082 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 147 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 11 miles northwest of KMES Mesa Verde Airport, Mesa Verde, California, and lasted for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 775 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 13 miles southeast of 29TX Lockett Airport, Vernon, Texas. The descent took 16 minutes, during which the aircraft decreased its altitude from 34,993 feet above sea level to 1,857 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,135 feet, covering a distance of 122 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 18R at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport was made from the north, with a heading of 181.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,279 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 18R, which had a length of 4,095 meters, was successful, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was well above the target at 165 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 431 meters, but the touchdown speed was fast at 160 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -248 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at 150 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. The total landing distance was 2,177 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,052 nautical miles, which was covered in 57 minutes, using 6,931 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on runway 18R, achieving a high score of 97.6%. The final approach was conducted from the north, heading 181.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,279 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed that was well above the target at 165 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 431 meters, which is considered good. However, the touchdown speed of 160 knots was slightly faster than expected, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly over-extended during the landing. The touchdown rate of -248 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slight loss of altitude during the touchdown.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 150°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,177 meters was 53% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for safe deceleration. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop. Overall, the landing was a success, with the aircraft performing well within the expected parameters.
