Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,863 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 562 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 22R at KBOS Logan International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,677 meters, which accounted for 78% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 177 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -1 °C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 233 degrees. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it passed overhead the MA17 Avco/Lowell Heliport in Lowell, Massachusetts. The enroute climb started at an altitude of 1,027 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 34,975 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,948 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 66 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which began 1 mile south east of KCEF Westover Metropolitan Airport / Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts. This cruise phase lasted for 178 minutes, covering a distance of 1,199 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 5 miles south west of KPOE Polk Army Air Field in Fort Polk, Louisiana. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,216 feet above sea level to 1,363 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,852 feet in 29 minutes, covering a distance of 126 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 08R at KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 90.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,247 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 08R was successful, with the touchdown point being 145 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 139 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was firm at -336 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 20 °C, with a wind speed of 19 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind component was 12 knots, while the headwind component was 15 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,403 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the parking area in 5 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,401 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 240 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 9,802 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport on runway 08R. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,247 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course throughout the approach, with a score of 92.9% indicating a high level of proficiency.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 145 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the optimal area. The touchdown speed of 139 knots was a bit faster than the target speed, indicating that the pilot may have applied a bit more braking than necessary. However, the touchdown rate of -336 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft was brought to a stop in a controlled manner.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the centerline of the runway at the moment of touchdown. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20°C, with a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 130°. The crosswind component was 12 knots, while the headwind component was 15 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 1,403 meters was 49% of the available runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient stopping distance to come to a stop within the designated area. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and brought it to a stop in a safe and controlled manner. Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop within a reasonable distance and without any major issues.
