Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,672 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 156 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at SBSJ Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf Airport took less than a minute, covering a short distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then began its departure roll on runway 16, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 67 knots. The takeoff distance of 626 meters accounted for only 23% of the runway length, indicating a smooth and efficient departure. Local weather conditions at the time of takeoff featured a temperature of 16°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots from a direction of 30°, resulting in a slight tailwind component.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 2,726 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 6,779 feet. This climb phase covered a distance of 14 nautical miles and took approximately 9 minutes to complete, with an increase in altitude of 4,053 feet. Following a brief level cruise phase, the aircraft commenced its enroute descent, reducing its altitude from 6,402 feet to 3,400 feet over a distance of 10 nautical miles in 5 minutes. The final approach to runway 16 was initiated from a heading of 135.0°, with the aircraft descending from an altitude of 1,318 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 16 was executed with a touchdown distance of 154 meters, accounting for only 20% of the runway length. Although the touchdown speed of 68 knots was slightly higher than optimal, the touchdown rate of -57 feet per minute was excellent. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned, deviating by 4.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing featured a temperature of 14°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from a direction of 15°, resulting in a slight crosswind component. The total landing distance of 546 meters was satisfactory, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance of 32 nautical miles was completed in 21 minutes, with no fuel consumption reported.
The aircraft touched down on runway 16 at SBSJ Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf Airport, demonstrating a good threshold height. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the desired level, registering 76 kt. The touchdown distance of 154 m was satisfactory, but the touchdown speed of 68 kt was somewhat faster than optimal. The aircraft's descent rate was impressive, with a rate of -57 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled touchdown.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's runway touchdown position was slightly off-centre, deviating by 4.2 m from the centreline. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, showcasing the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the critical phase of flight. The total landing distance of 546 m, which accounted for approximately 20% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits.
The overall performance of the landing was commendable, with a score of 97.1%. The approach quality was good, with the aircraft maintaining a stable and controlled descent throughout. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 14 °C and a gentle wind of 2 kt at 15 °, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing.
