Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,113 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,113 ft of the 11,326 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,873 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A350-1000, then departed from runway 04 at WMKP Penang International Airport. The takeoff distance was 5,451 feet, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 64°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile northeast of WMKP Penang International Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,015 feet above sea level to 38,961 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered 164 nautical miles, took 24 minutes and involved an increase of 37,946 feet in altitude.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 17 miles northeast of Ranot, Thailand. This phase lasted for 123 minutes and covered 989 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started at a latitude of 19.5765371 and a longitude of 112.6050185. The descent, which covered 177 nautical miles, took 28 minutes and involved a decrease of 37,256 feet in altitude, from 38,666 feet above sea level to 1,410 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 07C at VHHH Hong Kong International Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 72.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,362 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 07C, which had a length of 11,326 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 142 knots.
The touchdown point was 508 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 138 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was excellent at -80 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 15 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 269°. The crosswind and tailwind components were 0 and 1 knot, respectively.
The total landing distance was 4,848 feet, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,337 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 184 minutes. The aircraft used 41,463 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A350-1000 successfully landed at VHHH Hong Kong International Airport on runway 07C. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 72.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,362 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 142 kt, registering at 142 kt. However, the touchdown speed of 138 kt was a little fast, suggesting that the aircraft could have been slowed down slightly before touching down. The touchdown rate of -80 fpm was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The touchdown point was 508 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 15 feet from the centreline, which may require some adjustments during the rollout phase. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a gentle wind of 1 kt at 269°.
The total landing distance of 4,848 feet was 43% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop. Overall, the landing was executed with a high degree of precision and control, with a score of 98.0%.
