MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: gear still up, no landing flap set, sink rate above what the glideslope needed and off the runway's 3° glideslope.
At the 500 ft gate: gear still up, no landing flap set, sink rate above what the glideslope needed and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,732 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 512 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile at Mannheim-City Airport, runway 09. Following a takeoff roll down the runway, which had a length of 537 meters, the aircraft reached a liftoff speed of 103 knots.
As the aircraft departed the airport, it flew over Mannheim, entering a climbing phase from an altitude of 1,341 feet above sea level to 17,283 feet, a total ascent of 15,942 feet. During this 9-minute climb, the aircraft covered a distance of approximately 23 nautical miles.
The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise section, which lasted 2 minutes and covered a distance of 6 nautical miles as the aircraft flew 2 miles south of Bruchsal. The level cruise phase came to an end when the aircraft began its first descent over Konigsbach-Stein, where it descended from 17,419 feet to 15,270 feet, a decrease of 2,150 feet, in just 2 minutes.
Following its descent, the aircraft entered another enroute climb phase 2 miles east of Savognin, where it rose from 15,483 feet to 16,945 feet, a total ascent of 1,462 feet, in 3 minutes. This climb phase concluded with the aircraft beginning its descent over Spluegen, where it fell from 16,929 feet to 15,914 feet, a decrease of 1,015 feet, in 2 minutes.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase 4 miles north-east of Madesimo, where it remained for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 13 nautical miles. This level cruise concluded with the aircraft beginning its final descent over Vicosoprano, where it fell from 16,181 feet to 8,098 feet, a decrease of 8,083 feet, in 3 minutes.
The descent led the aircraft into its approach phase, where it began its final approach to runway 03 at Samedan Airport from the south-west, heading at 20° and 2,454 feet above ground level. The aircraft maintained good threshold height, but touched down with excessive speed at 102 knots and had a high threshold speed of 128 knots.
Touchdown occurred 267 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather at the time included a temperature of 13° Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots from 209 degrees, resulting in 7 knots of tailwind.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 1,095 meters, or 63% of the runway length, with a touchdown rate of -213 feet per minute. The aircraft came to a stop after a perfect runway rollout alignment, before taxiing back to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 227 nautical miles, using 40 minutes and 200 kilograms of fuel.
The Vision Jet's landing at LSZS Samedan Airport is being evaluated. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, aligning with a heading of 20.0 degrees at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 2,454 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon reaching the final approach, the pilot encountered a wind condition of 7 knots from a direction of 209 degrees. However, this only resulted in a very slight tailwind of 7 knots.
The pilot's performance during the landing was not flawless, as the threshold speed of 128 knots was deemed excessively high. This could have been due to an incomplete flare, indicating that the aircraft did not transition smoothly into a descent, which is crucial for achieving an optimal touchdown speed. The touchdown speed, which was recorded at 102 knots, was also considered too fast.
The touchdown point was located 267 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, highlighting a potential issue with the altitude management during the flare or the touchdown speed itself. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was precise, ensuring the aircraft landed directly on the runway.
A review of the landing distance shows it was 1,095 meters, which is 63% of the total runway length of 1,732 meters. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating the pilot's proficiency in maintaining control throughout the landing sequence.
Weather conditions at the time of the landing included a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a gentle breeze of 7 knots from the south-southeast.
