Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,068 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,068 m of the 2,186 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,174 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the departure roll on runway 27 at East Midlands Airport (EGNX), a Boeing 737-800 aircraft lifting off the ground after a takeoff distance of 1,282 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The aircraft gained liftoff speed of 149 knots after a smooth departure from the airport.
As the aircraft began its enroute climb, it started at a height of 1,330 feet above sea level (asl) and steadily increased its altitude to 7,995 ft asl within a short period of 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles. The climb continued from various points over the English countryside. The first notable ascent occurred from 1 mile southwest of Castle Donington, where the aircraft climbed to 7,995 ft asl in just 2 minutes, covering 8 nm. The aircraft maintained a steady level cruise at this height for 2 minutes before making another ascent.
The aircraft climbed from 8,912 ft asl to 38,681 ft asl, an increase of 29,769 ft, in 21 minutes and covering 130 nm. This remarkable ascent allowed the aircraft to reach cruising altitude for the next stage of its journey. The cruise phase lasted 54 minutes over a distance of 368 nautical miles, beginning 20 miles south of Goring-by-Sea.
As the flight continued towards its destination, the aircraft began its descent from cruising altitude and entered French airspace above Tour-de-Faure. Here, the aircraft descended from 38,893 ft asl to 12,316 ft asl in 27 minutes and covering 149 nm, beginning a significant descent phase that would bring the aircraft closer to its destination. The aircraft levelled off briefly before beginning another descent.
The next descent phase started over the airspace surrounding LECF Calaf-Sallavinera Airfield in Sant Pere Sallavinera, where the aircraft descended from 11,420 ft asl to 1,585 ft asl in 20 minutes, covering 44 nm. This descent was the final preparation for landing.
Final approach to runway 07 at Reus Airport (LERS) began with a heading of 69.0° from the southwest. At 4 nautical miles from the airport and 1,344 feet above ground level, the aircraft started its approach. The aircraft landed on runway 07, which had a length of 2,186 meters, at a threshold speed that was slightly above target.
Landing performance was good, with a touchdown speed of 128 knots and a touchdown rate of -86 feet per minute. However, the touchdown point was quite far from the centerline of the runway, using more than 50% of available runway length. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline due to the slight crosswind and headwind conditions of 1 and 2 knots, respectively. The aircraft taxied to the parking area after a 3-minute journey of 1 nautical mile. The total landing distance covered was 1,989 meters, using 91% of the runway length.
Overall, this flight had a total distance of 731 nautical miles and took 138 minutes, with the aircraft consuming 5,009 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 landed safely at LERS Reus Airport, achieving an overall score of 79.7%. The aircraft initiated its final approach from the southwest, heading towards runway 07 at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,344 feet above ground level.
During the approach, the aircraft maintained a good threshold height, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 140 kt, registering at 141 kt. Despite this, the touchdown speed of 128 kt was deemed satisfactory, suggesting that the pilot maintained adequate control over the aircraft's velocity.
The touchdown point was notably long, covering more than 50% of the available runway. This suggests that the aircraft may have been slightly behind schedule or required a longer runway, but still managed to come to a safe stop. The touchdown rate was impressive, measuring -86 fpm, which is a significant achievement considering the landing conditions.
Local weather conditions at the time of the landing featured a temperature of 26 °C and a relatively calm wind speed of 3 kt, blowing at 101°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component of 1 kt and a headwind component of 2 kt.
The total landing distance recorded 1,989 meters, which is equivalent to 91% of the available runway length of 2,186 meters. This implies that the aircraft's landing roll was extensive, but still within the bounds of safe operation. Finally, the runway rollout alignment after touchdown was marginally off-centerline by 8.5 meters, highlighting a slight deviation from ideal performance.
