Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,578 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,578 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 461 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by an Airbus A321 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took less than a minute and covered a distance of less than one nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 08 at Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport (EPKT), with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 157 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of -4 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 16 knots at an angle of 80 degrees.
The aircraft experienced a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 15 knots, which affected its takeoff performance. The takeoff distance was 1,164 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway length. After departing from Katowice, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started one mile east of the airport and continued for six minutes, covering a distance of 32 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 2,056 feet above sea level to 18,865 feet, an increase of 16,809 feet.
The enroute level cruise phase began two miles south of Zabrze, Poland, and lasted for two minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb phase, which started two miles northwest of Sosnicowice, Poland, and continued for nine minutes, covering a distance of 62 nautical miles. The aircraft climbed from an altitude of 19,008 feet to 34,002 feet, an increase of 14,994 feet.
The enroute level cruise phase resumed four miles northwest of Stare Mesto, Czech Republic, and lasted for 22 minutes, covering a distance of 152 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent phase, which started one mile east of Becov nad Teplou, Czech Republic, and continued for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 92 nautical miles. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 34,019 feet to 4,512 feet, a decrease of 29,507 feet.
The enroute level cruise phase resumed overhead Weisendorf, Germany, and lasted for two minutes, covering a distance of six nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent phase, which started one mile northeast of Hagenbuchach, Germany, and continued for three minutes, covering a distance of eight nautical miles. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 4,502 feet to 2,382 feet, a decrease of 2,120 feet.
The final approach to runway 10 at Nuremberg Airport (EDDN) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading at 99.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level and a distance of four nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 10, which had a length of 2,693 meters. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 136 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 463 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 127 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -430 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 1 degree Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at an angle of 90 degrees.
The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 10 knots, which affected the landing performance. The total landing distance was 1,498 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway length. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took three minutes and covered a distance of less than one
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Nuremberg Airport (EDDN) on runway 10, achieving a score of 95.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 99.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a slight deviation in heading, but this did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed slightly above the target threshold height of 58 feet agl, but this was not a major concern. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 136 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed of 127 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 463 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing.
The landing rate was a concern, as it was recorded at -430 feet per minute (fpm), which is considered hard. This may have been due to the slightly fast touchdown speed and the aircraft's weight at the time of landing. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 1°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 90°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 10 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 1,498 meters was 56% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This indicates that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing and that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and safely. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, the Airbus A321 landed safely at Nuremberg Airport, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly with regards to the touchdown speed and landing rate. However, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were sufficient to achieve a score of 95.2%.
