Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,985 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 877 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Punta Cana International Airport, the Boeing 737-MAX8 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As it reached the runway, the aircraft initiated its departure roll on runway 08, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 151 knots. The takeoff distance of 5,233 feet was 51% of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off smoothly.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 18,350 feet above sea level in just 6 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles. The climb was initiated 1 mile northeast of the airport, and the aircraft continued to ascend to its cruising altitude. The enroute level cruise phase followed, lasting 13 minutes and covering a distance of 79 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, reducing its altitude from 18,861 feet to 1,276 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 68 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, it initiated its final approach to runway 10, aligning itself with the runway from the west. The landing was smooth, with a touchdown distance of 871 feet, slightly above the target. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 139 knots, but the runway touchdown position was only 13 feet off-centerline. The total landing distance was 4,069 feet, 51% of the runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 183 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 3,426 pounds of fuel during the 45-minute flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 touched down on runway 10 at TJSJ Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, demonstrating a good threshold height. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 144 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal approach speed. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, resulting in a touchdown distance of 871 ft, which was within acceptable limits.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was a little fast at 139 kt, and the touchdown rate was firm at -363 fpm. Despite this, the runway touchdown position was only slightly misaligned by 13 ft from the centreline, indicating a relatively smooth and controlled touchdown. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 82 °F and a headwind of 8 kt, contributed to a stable approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 4,069 ft was 51% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the critical phases of the landing. Overall, the landing performance was satisfactory, with a score of 97.1%.
