Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 4,095 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 365 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the Airbus A320 began with a 5-minute taxi from the parking area to the runway, covering 1 nm. The departure roll took place on runway 22L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The aircraft used 56% of the runway for takeoff, with liftoff speed recorded at 172 knots. The local weather at the time of departure was 4°C with a wind speed of 14 knots at 230°, resulting in a 5-knot crosswind and a 13-knot headwind.
The enroute climb started 1 mile southeast of Romulus, Michigan, climbing from 1,655 ft asl to 31,187 ft asl in 11 minutes and covering 92 nm. The level cruise phase began 3 miles northeast of OH91 Dave Rice Ultralightport Lima, Ohio, lasting 37 minutes and covering 661 nm. The descent started 8 miles southwest of Garvin, Oklahoma, descending from 32,406 ft asl to 1,852 ft asl in 15 minutes, covering 112 nm.
During the final approach to runway 17C at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the aircraft approached from the north at 4 nm and 1,276 ft agl. The landing on runway 17C had a good threshold height and speed of 140 knots, with a touchdown at 367 m and a speed of 136 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -275 ft/m, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.3 m from the centerline. The local weather at the time of landing was 11°C with a wind speed of 9 knots at 150°, resulting in a 4-knot crosswind and an 8-knot headwind.
The total landing distance was 1,388 m, representing 34% of the runway length, with a slight misalignment of 8.9 m from the centerline during rollout. After landing, the taxi to the parking area took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. The total flight distance for the journey was 874 nm, taking a total of 74 minutes and utilizing 6,170 kg of fuel.
Overall, this aircraft landing scored a respectable 96.3%, with several aspects contributing to its success.
During the Approach Phase, the pilot showcased excellent glideslope alignment, demonstrating a high level of skill and precision. The threshold speed of 140 knots was within a safe range, indicating good control and awareness of the aircraft's performance capabilities.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, the pilot maintained a good threshold height, ensuring a smooth transition from descent to the final touchdown. The excellent landing flare further illustrated the pilot's proficiency in executing a controlled and stable landing.
However, there were some areas for improvement in the Touchdown Phase. While the touchdown rate of -275 ft/m was fair, indicating a moderate descent rate upon landing, the touchdown speed of 136 knots was slightly fast. This may have led to a slightly firmer touch down than desired.
On a positive note, the touchdown distance of 367 meters was within acceptable limits, demonstrating effective runway management and braking control. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centerline, suggesting a need for greater precision in aligning the aircraft with the runway.
Overall, this landing demonstrated strong fundamental skills with room for improvement in areas such as touchdown speed and runway alignment. With continued practice and attention to detail, the pilot has the potential to further enhance their landing performance and achieve even higher scores in the future. Keep up the good work and strive for continual improvement in all aspects of your flying skills. Well done!
