Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,683 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 622 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a PC-12, then departed from runway 12 at RJCH Hakodate Airport in Japan. The takeoff distance was 771 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 94 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 29 degrees.
The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of RJCH Hakodate Airport. The climb took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 40 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,094 feet above sea level to 23,096 feet above sea level, an increase of 22,003 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 25 miles north of Shimokizukuri in Aomori-ken, Japan. This phase lasted for 87 minutes and covered a distance of 291 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 8 miles east of Nanao in Ishikawa-ken, Japan. The descent took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 47 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 22,284 feet above sea level to 1,314 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,970 feet.
The final approach to runway 24 at RJNK Komatsu Airport/JASDF Komatsu Air Base was made from the north-east, with a heading of 235.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 24, which had a length of 2,683 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 87 knots.
The touchdown point was 226 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 70 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was perfect at -26 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 3 knots at a direction of 210 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 944 meters, which accounted for 35% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 387 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 128 minutes. The aircraft used 424 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, a PC-12, successfully landed at RJNK Komatsu Airport / JASDF Komatsu Air Base, with a final approach score of 93.5%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north east, heading 235.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 24, which has a length of 2,683 meters. The threshold height was reported as good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 87 knots. The touchdown point was 226 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively short distance. The touchdown speed of 70 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -26 feet per minute was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 210°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions were favorable for the landing, and the aircraft's performance was not significantly affected by the wind.
The total landing distance of 944 meters was 35% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This indicates that the aircraft was able to land smoothly and efficiently, with minimal use of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also reported as very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft performed well in a variety of conditions. The score of 93.5% reflects the high level of proficiency demonstrated by the pilot and the aircraft's performance during the landing.
