Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,012 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,150 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Punta Cana International Airport, the Boeing 737-MAX8 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. Upon reaching runway 09, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 5,644-foot runway, which represented 56% of its total length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 160 knots, clearing the ground with ease.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it transitioned into an enroute climb, ascending from 985 feet above sea level to 17,003 feet, a vertical gain of 16,018 feet, in just 6 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 29 nautical miles, positioning the aircraft for its enroute level cruise. The cruise phase, which lasted 9 minutes, saw the aircraft maintain a steady altitude, covering a distance of 54 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, gradually losing altitude from 17,002 feet to 2,141 feet, a decrease of 14,860 feet, in 11 minutes. Following a brief level cruise phase near Trujillo Alto, the aircraft continued its descent, eventually initiating its final approach to runway 10 at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.
The final approach was executed from the west, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 90.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 136 knots, with a touchdown distance of 1,159 feet, representing 45% of the runway's total length. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned, deviating 13 feet from the centerline. Following a smooth rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 154 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 40 minutes, and the aircraft consumed 3,259 pounds of fuel during the journey.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 touched down on runway 10 at TJSJ Luis Munoz Marin International Airport with a good threshold height, allowing the crew to maintain a stable approach. The threshold speed of 143 kt was well within the acceptable range, indicating a well-executed approach. As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the touchdown distance of 1,159 ft was satisfactory, and the touchdown speed of 136 kt was also within the desired parameters.
However, the touchdown rate of -204 fpm was slightly below the optimal rate, resulting in a fair assessment. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 13 ft from the centreline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. Despite this, the local weather conditions, with a temperature of 77 °F and a gentle headwind of 4 kt, were favorable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 3,634 ft, which accounted for 45% of the runway length, was within the acceptable range. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the crew maintained control of the aircraft during the critical phase of the landing. Overall, the landing was assessed at 99.2%, reflecting a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
