Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,326 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,326 m of the 3,680 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 841 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 30 at FZIC Bangoka International Airport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The takeoff distance was 1,945 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 167 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot at 203°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 0 knots. After takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 2 miles northwest of FZIC Bangoka International Airport. The climb took 22 minutes and covered 143 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 2,448 feet above sea level to 31,804 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,356 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 63 miles south of FZWH Nia-Nia Airport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This phase lasted 42 minutes and covered 204 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 17 miles southwest of Mubende in Uganda and lasted 18 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 32,043 feet above sea level to 5,085 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,958 feet. The descent covered 81 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 17 at HUEN Entebbe International Airport was made from the north, with a heading of 172.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,306 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 17 was successful, with a touchdown point 430 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -260 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 22°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 300°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the tailwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 2,251 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 438 nautical miles, which was covered in 83 minutes. The aircraft used 4,283 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at HUEN Entebbe International Airport, achieving a score of 91.5%. The final approach to runway 17 was initiated from the north, with a heading of 172.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,306 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was characterized by a good threshold speed of 145 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 430 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-target. However, the touchdown speed of 135 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -260 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have maintained a more gradual descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the aircraft landing beyond the designated touchdown zone. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 22°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 300°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 2 knots each, which did not significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance of 2,251 meters was 61% of the available runway length, indicating that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for a safe stop. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centerline, which may have required the pilots to make some adjustments to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown. The pilots demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, and the aircraft's performance was satisfactory.
