Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,959 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 60 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A330-900 taxied from the parking area to runway 07R at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (WIII) in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 07R, the aircraft accelerated over 2,483 m, representing 68 % of the available runway, and lifted off at 177 kt; ambient temperature was 31 °C with a wind of 6 kt from 160°, giving a 0 kt headwind and a 6 kt cross-wind component.
The initial climb began 1 nm east of WIII, climbing from 939 ft to 6,899 ft (a gain of 5,960 ft) in 3 minutes while traversing 14 nm.
Level cruise commenced 8 nm north-east of Jakarta and lasted 3 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 15 nm.
A second climb segment started 11 nm north of Cikarang, raising the altitude from 7,000 ft to 32,687 ft (gain of 25,687 ft) over 22 minutes and 142 nm.
The following cruise leg began 111 nm north-west of WARU Dewadaru/Karimunjawa and continued for 50 minutes, covering 373 nm.
Climb resumed 22 nm south-west of WAGM Sanggu, increasing altitude from 33,31 ft to 34,000 ft (gain of 669 ft) in 2 minutes while flying 11 nm.
A cruise segment then started 15 nm south of WRBU Buntok Airport and lasted 62 minutes, during which 462 nm were flown.
The aircraft climbed again 15 nm east of WAFA Dowiwi, rising from 34,104 ft to 34,867 ft (gain of 763 ft) in 2 minutes over 11 nm.
Subsequent cruise began 7 nm north-west of Luwuk, lasting 65 minutes and covering 480 nm.
A further climb started 59 nm north-east of WZ68 Lili/Halmahera, raising altitude from 34,999 ft to 35,549 ft (gain of 550 ft) in 2 minutes while traveling 11 nm.
The next cruise leg originated 70 nm north-east of WZ68 and extended for 264 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 2,044 nm.
Descent commenced 11 nm north-east of RJAN Niijima Airport, descending from 36,004 ft to 4,000 ft (loss of 32,004 ft) in 18 minutes and covering 101 nm.
A brief level segment followed 1 nm west of Hatogaya-honcho, lasting 3 minutes and spanning 10 nm.
The final descent began 2 nm north-west of Tokyo, dropping from 3,996 ft to 1,251 ft (loss of 2,745 ft) in 3 minutes while covering 7 nm.
On final approach to runway 16L at Tokyo Haneda International Airport (RJTT), the aircraft aligned from the north-west on a heading of 148.0° at 4 nm and 1,212 ft AGL.
Landing on runway 16L was achieved with a threshold speed of 138 kt; touchdown occurred 59 m down the runway at 138 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 146 fpm. The touchdown point was 10.1 m left of the centreline. Local conditions were 30 °C, wind 6 kt from 180°, providing a 5 kt headwind and a 3 kt cross-wind. Total landing distance was 797 m, representing 27 % of the runway length.
During rollout the aircraft travelled 797 m and was observed to be 9.0 m off the centreline, indicating a slight misalignment.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 13 minutes, covering 2 nm.
In total, the flight covered 3,694 nm, required 518 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 49,884 kg of fuel.
The Airbus A330-900 conducted the final approach to runway 16L at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport from the north-west, flying a heading of 148.0° at 4 nm and 1,212 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Local weather was 30 °C with wind 6 kt from 180°, including a 3 kt crosswind component and a 5 kt headwind component.
At threshold the aircraft maintained good threshold height and a threshold speed of 138 kt. Touchdown distance was good at 59 m and touchdown speed remained good at 138 kt. The flare produced a smooth touchdown rate of minus 146 fpm.
Touchdown occurred with the runway touchdown position misaligned by 10.1 m from the centreline, and the total landing distance measured 797 m, representing 27 % of the available runway length.
During rollout the aircraft’s alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.0 m from the centreline.
Refine centreline tracking on final and rollout to reduce the 10.1 m and 9.0 m deviations observed. Maintaining tighter lateral guidance will help keep touchdown and rollout positions within tighter tolerances.
