Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,284 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 541 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A320neo taxied from the parking area to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 NM.
During the departure roll on runway 05R, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 156 kt and left the ground after a take-off distance of 1,110 m, which represented 34 % of the runway length; ambient temperature was 35 °C with a wind of 3 kt from 1°, including a 3 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt head-wind.
The climb commenced overhead the airport, climbing from 286 ft ASL to 1,540 ft ASL-a gain of 1,254 ft-in 1 minute while traversing 3 NM.
Level cruise began 2 miles south of Wiri and continued for 4 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 11 NM.
On final approach to runway 05R the aircraft was established from the west on a heading of 78.0° at 2 NM and 764 ft AGL.
The descent segment reduced altitude from 1,102 ft AGL to 53 ft AGL in 72 seconds, and the aircraft met the stabilisation gates.
Touchdown occurred on runway 05R, whose total length is 3,284 m; the threshold speed was 124 kt. The aircraft contacted the runway 116 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 112 kt, with a vertical speed of minus 290 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 12.6 m from the centreline. Weather at the time was 32 °C with a wind of 5 kt from 1°, comprising a 5 kt cross-wind and a 2 kt head-wind.
The landing roll measured 1,155 m, representing 35 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was slightly off centreline by 12.4 m.
After exiting the runway, the aircraft taxied back to the parking area in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 NM.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 21 NM, took 7, and consumed 396 kg of fuel.
The final approach to runway 05R at NZAA Auckland International Airport was flown from the west on a heading of 78.0° at 2 nm and 764 ft agl. At the 1,000 ft gate the approach was assessed as unstable because the sink rate was too high, and the aircraft descended from 1,102 ft agl to 53 ft agl in 72 seconds, scoring on the stabilisation gates.
Threshold height was reported as good and the threshold speed was good at 124 kt. The flare was executed with the aircraft crossing the threshold at the appropriate speed and height.
Touchdown occurred 116 m beyond the touchdown zone with a speed of 112 kt, which was judged good, and a touchdown rate of minus 290 fpm, rated fair. The touchdown point was misaligned by 12.6 m from the centreline and the total landing distance was 1,155 m, representing 35 % of the runway length.
During rollout the aircraft remained slightly off the centreline, with a lateral deviation of 12.4 m. Local weather was 32 °C, wind 5 kt from 001°, including a 5 kt crosswind component and a 2 kt headwind component.
Focus on achieving a stabilized approach by controlling sink rate before the 1,000 ft gate and on maintaining centreline alignment through touchdown and rollout to reduce the 12-meter deviations observed.
