Departure
Rotate sooner, bringing the nose up at 156 kt rather than letting speed build further.
What happened: You lifted off at 174 kt against a rotation target of 156 kt, rotating late in the ground roll.
Watch for: Watch airspeed and rotate at the target of 156 kt.
See Departure Roll
Arrival
Reduce power earlier on final to bleed speed back to 146 kt before crossing the threshold.
What happened: You crossed the threshold at 156 kt, 10 kt above the 146 kt target.
Watch for: Airspeed, targeting 146 kt at the threshold.

Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,125 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,125 ft of the 7,481 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,375 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport took 13 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Boeing 737-900 then began its departure roll on runway 24R, utilizing 6,452 feet, or 68% of the runway's length, to achieve liftoff at a speed of 174 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 60°F, with a wind of 11 knots at 270°, resulting in a headwind of 8 knots and a crosswind of 8 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile south of CYYZ, ascending from 1,445 feet above sea level to 36,005 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 121 nautical miles. The climb rate was impressive, with an increase of 34,560 feet in a relatively short period. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, lasting 25 minutes and covering 166 nautical miles, before beginning its enroute descent 3 miles southeast of Phil's Field Overisel in Michigan. The descent from 35,999 feet to 2,057 feet took 19 minutes, covering 101 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Chicago O'Hare International Airport, it began its final approach to runway 27R from the east, aligning with the runway at 4 nautical miles and 1,369 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 1,311 feet, slightly above the target. The touchdown speed was 154 knots, a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -97 feet per minute was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was perfect. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 16 minutes to cover a distance of 3 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 399 nautical miles, taking 91 minutes, and the aircraft used 8,359 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-900 touched down smoothly on runway 27R at KORD Chicago O'Hare International Airport, showcasing exceptional approach quality. The aircraft descended from 1,369 feet above ground level (agl) at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold, aligning itself with the runway heading of 270.0°. The approach was characterized by a stable and controlled descent, culminating in a good threshold height.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 156 kt, registering 157 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 1,311 feet was well within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 154 kt was a tad fast, but the aircraft's descent rate of -97 feet per minute (fpm) was exemplary, indicating a well-executed flare. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline position.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining perfect alignment with the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 4,815 feet, accounting for 64% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The combination of a stable approach, smooth touchdown, and controlled rollout earned the Boeing 737-900 a perfect score of 100.0%. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 67°F and a 7-knot headwind, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
