Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,925 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,925 m of the 2,102 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,209 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The 1.74 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna Longitude departed Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (KASE) on runway 15, employing a takeoff run of 2,351 m which represented 96 % of the available runway. Liftoff was achieved at 136 kt. Ambient conditions were 19 °C with a wind from 149° at 6 kt, including a 1 kt crosswind component and a 6 kt headwind.
Climb commenced one mile west of Aspen, where the aircraft accelerated from 8,522 ft asl to 34,170 ft asl, a gain of 25,648 ft. The ascent was completed in 9 minutes while covering 50 nm.
Level cruise began seven miles south-west of Aspen and persisted for 9 minutes, during which 71 nm were traversed.
Descent was initiated nine miles west of Gunnison, descending from 34,634 ft asl to 9,768 ft asl, a loss of 24,865 ft. The descent lasted 8 minutes and spanned 72 nm.
The final approach to runway 09 at Telluride Regional Airport (KTEX) was executed from the west, on a heading of 107.0° at 2 nm and 726 ft agl.
Landing on runway 09 occurred with a runway length of 2,102 m; the threshold height of 88 ft agl was above the intended value and the threshold speed was 150 kt. Touchdown was recorded at 136 kt, using more than 50 % of the runway and producing a hard touchdown rate of minus 424 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 10.4 m from the centreline. Weather at the time was 21 °C with a wind from 219° at 14 kt, a 13 kt crosswind component and a 6 kt tailwind. Total landing distance measured 1,805 m, equivalent to 86 % of the runway, and the rollout was laterally misaligned by 14.3 m from the centreline.
After rollout, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
Overall, the flight covered 197 nm, required 27 minutes, and consumed 641 kg of fuel.
The Cessna Longitude completed a final approach to runway 09 at KTEX Telluride Regional Airport from the west, tracking a heading of 107.0° at 2 nm and 726 ft agl. The aircraft entered the approach with a temperature of 21 °C, wind from 219° at 14 kt, a 13 kt cross-wind component and a 6 kt tail-wind component, and the overall landing score was recorded as 62.2 %.
During the threshold and flare phase the threshold height was 88 ft agl, which was significantly above target, and the threshold speed was 150 kt, which was excessively high.
At touchdown the aircraft contacted the runway after using more than 50 % of the available runway, the touchdown speed was 136 kt, which was too fast, and the vertical rate was hard at minus 424 fpm. The touchdown point was misaligned by 10.4 m from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 1,805 m, representing 86 % of the 2,102 m runway, and the rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.3 m from the centreline.
Reduce the approach and touchdown speeds to bring the aircraft within the intended speed envelope and aim for an earlier touchdown point to preserve runway margin. Improving centreline tracking during flare and rollout will also tighten alignment tolerances.
