Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,602 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,602 m of the 3,862 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 498 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 26L at Vancouver International Airport (CYVR). The takeoff distance was 1,235 meters, which accounted for 38% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 142 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots at 200 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 1 knot. After departing from CYVR, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft up to an altitude of 36,854 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 84 nautical miles and took 13 minutes, with an increase in altitude of 35,797 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 8 minutes and covered a distance of 183 nautical miles. This phase began 19 miles southeast of Hope, British Columbia, Canada. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 25 miles southwest of Invermere, British Columbia, Canada. The descent took the aircraft down from an altitude of 36,757 feet to 4,835 feet above sea level, covering a distance of 112 nautical miles in 15 minutes.
As the aircraft approached Calgary International Airport (CYYC), it began its final approach to runway 17R from the north, heading 180 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots at 110 degrees, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 17R, which had a length of 3,862 meters. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target speed at 140 knots, and the touchdown point was 86 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was fair at -216 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 7.2 meters.
The total landing distance was 1,525 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 388 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 49 minutes. The aircraft used 2,845 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Calgary International Airport, with a score of 97.5%. The final approach to runway 17R was initiated from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 3,862 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 140 knots. The touchdown point was located 86 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 133 knots was a bit faster than desired, and the touchdown rate of -216 feet per minute was considered fair.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 7.2 meters, which may have been due to the aircraft's approach path or the pilot's control inputs. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 22°C, a wind speed of 6 knots from 110°, resulting in a 6-knot crosswind and a 2-knot headwind.
The total landing distance of 1,525 meters was 39% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was reported as very good, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled during the rollout phase and did not deviate significantly from the centerline.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely on the runway and rolling out in a controlled manner. However, there were some minor deviations from the desired touchdown point and speed, which may be addressed in future training or operations to improve the aircraft's performance.
