Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,353 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 381 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period of 26 minutes from the parking area to the runway, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles (nm). Upon departing from runway 24L at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, the Black Square Starship N45FL took off, with an initial climb from 1,038 feet asl to 36,009 feet asl over a span of 20 minutes, covering 75 nm. During this period, the aircraft encountered local weather conditions comprising a temperature of 28°C, a wind of 3 knots at 90°, with a crosswind of 1 kt and a tailwind of 3 kt.
After reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft engaged in level cruising for a significant portion of the flight. A notable cruising segment took place 17 miles northwest of Port de Soller, lasting 100 minutes and covering 515 nm. This cruising period was followed by a descent starting 33 miles southeast of LICG Pantelleria Airport, where the aircraft decreased its altitude from 35,778 feet asl to 3,071 feet asl over 18 minutes, covering 91 nm.
Further cruising took place over Ghajnsielem, lasting 2 minutes and covering 5 nm, before entering a descent phase from 3,070 feet asl to 1,461 feet asl over 2 minutes, covering 4 nm, above Mellieha. The flight progressed, with a final approach to runway 13 at LMML Malta International Airport from the northwest, with a heading of 135.0° at 4 nm and 1,192 feet agl.
A smooth landing on runway 13 took place, with a touchdown distance of 382 meters, a landing threshold speed of 111 kt, and a touchdown rate of -97 fpm. Although the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.3 meters from the centreline, the runway rollout alignment was very good. Local weather conditions for the landing were a temperature of 30°C, a wind of 7 kt at 140°, with a crosswind of 1 kt and a headwind of 7 kt.
The entire flight duration lasted 161 minutes, covering a total distance of 702 nm, with the aircraft using 772 kg of fuel. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 5 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nm. The flight experienced a seamless sequence of takeoff to landing, with the aircraft efficiently handling the various climate conditions and flight segments.
The Black Square Starship N45FL has successfully landed at LMML Malta International Airport. The aircraft made a final approach to runway 13 from the north-west, heading 135.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,192 feet above ground level (agl). With good threshold height and speed (111 kt) at the moment of landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a satisfactory touchdown distance of 382 meters and a touchdown speed of 104 kt.
A key indicator of a safe landing is the touchdown rate, and in this case, it was excellent at -97 feet per minute (fpm). However, while the overall landing was satisfactory, there was some misalignment of the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft landing 3.3 meters off the centerline of the runway.
The weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30 °C and a relatively light wind of 7 kt from a heading of 140°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 kt, while the headwind component was 7 kt. This combination of weather conditions had a minimal impact on the landing, allowing the aircraft to take advantage of the headwind to reduce its landing roll.
The total landing distance was 1,092 meters, which equates to approximately 33% of the runway length. The runway itself is a substantial 3,353 meters long, providing ample space for the aircraft to land and roll out. During the rollout, the aircraft maintained very good alignment with the runway centerline.
Overall, the Black Square Starship N45FL landed safely at LMML Malta International Airport, with a score of 99.8% reflecting a near-perfect execution of the landing.
