MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,538 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,538 m of the 2,982 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 884 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Black Square Starship N45FL taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Ämari Air Base, taking approximately 2 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 24, with a takeoff distance of 953 meters, which was 35% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 128 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 14°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 280°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 6 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northeast of Padise, Estonia, where the aircraft ascended from 784 feet above sea level to 33,437 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,653 feet in 26 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 13 miles southwest of Houtskaer, Finland, and lasted for 99 minutes, covering a distance of 410 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 1 mile southwest of Rovaniemi Airport, Finland, descending from 33,607 feet above sea level to 2,519 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,088 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles.
Following the descent, the aircraft entered another enroute level cruise 11 miles north of Ranua Airfield, Finland, lasting for 10 minutes and covering 24 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 03 at Rovaniemi Airport was made from the southwest, heading 37.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,414 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 03, which was 2,982 meters long. The threshold height was slightly above the target, while the threshold speed was well above the target at 123 knots. The touchdown point was 455 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 91 knots and a perfect touchdown rate of -47 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 8°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 39°. The crosswind was 0 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,445 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 3 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 569 nautical miles, lasting 159 minutes and consuming 782 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft, Black Square Starship N45FL, successfully landed at EFRO Rovaniemi Airport, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its final approach and landing maneuvers. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the southwest, heading 37.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,414 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon reaching the runway, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 91 knots, which was well within the target range. The touchdown rate of -47 feet per minute (fpm) was also perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown point was slightly beyond the designated touchdown zone, located 455 meters down the runway.
The threshold height at 59 feet agl was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed of 123 knots was well above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly overpowered or that the pilot may have been taking a more cautious approach. Despite this, the overall landing performance was impressive, with the aircraft demonstrating a high degree of control and precision.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 39°. The crosswind component was negligible, and the headwind component was 4 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly higher threshold speed.
The total landing distance of 1,445 meters was 48% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and bring it to a stop in a safe and controlled manner. Overall, the landing performance of the Black Square Starship N45FL was excellent, with a score of 89.3%.
