Improve the pattern downwind leg
Spacing cues are relative to your eyepoint, so two simmers with different FOV settings following the same wingtip cue fly patterns half a mile different in width, and a wide FOV compresses depth so the runway on base looks further away than it is, biasing you towards a late turn. Pick a camera position and FOV, save it, and never change it, because every judgement you calibrate is calibrated to that picture.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,393 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 885 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft flown, a Cessna C152, began its flight by taxiing from the parking area to the runway. This took approximately 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. With the runway clear, the aircraft departed from runway 08 at the Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, a location known as LICC.
At the time of departure, the local weather was favorable, with a temperature of 60°F. The wind conditions were also calm, with a speed of 1 knot blowing from 269°. The aircraft's takeoff distance was 1,059 feet, accounting for 14% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was 70 knots, allowing the plane to clear the ground with ease.
After departure, the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern from runway 08, flying over the Catania-Fontanarossa Airport. This pattern began with a left-hand turn, which the plane executed in just under 1 nautical mile, taking 137 seconds to complete. During this turn, the aircraft flew over a crosswind, which had a speed of 0 knots. Following the initial turn, the plane flew a short distance before executing another left-hand turn.
As the aircraft continued its left-hand pattern, it flew over a crosswind with a speed of 1 knot. This turn was also short in distance, taking the plane just 28 seconds to complete. The pattern then consisted of a downwind turn, where the aircraft flew a distance of 4 nautical miles while maintaining an angle of 70.2° with respect to the runway. This was followed by a downwind leg, during which the plane flew a distance of 2 nautical miles in 101 seconds.
Next, the aircraft flew a base leg turn, during which it turned to an angle of 60.9° with respect to the runway. This turn covered a distance of 2 nautical miles, before the plane flew a short base leg, taking just 50 seconds to complete. The final turn of the pattern was executed in another 28 seconds, with the aircraft flying over a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
As the aircraft approached the runway, it aligned itself for a final approach, descending from a height of 1 nautical mile and 373 feet above ground level (agl). During this final approach, the plane's heading was 84.0°, while the local weather conditions had a temperature of 68°F. The wind speed was 3 knots, blowing from 218°, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots.
Upon landing on runway 08, the aircraft performed well, touching down at the threshold and achieving a touchdown speed of 51 knots, which was just below the target speed. The touchdown distance was 876 feet, which was a good result given the runway's length of 7,393 feet. The touchdown rate was smooth, at -129 feet per minute (fpm), and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in approximately 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total landing distance was 2,284 feet, accounting for 31% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. Throughout the flight, the aircraft used a total of 11 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles, and consumed a negligible amount of fuel, -1 pound.
The Cessna C152 aircraft successfully landed at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, with a final score of 95.6%. The pilot approached the runway from the west at a heading of 84.0°, descending from an altitude of 373 feet above ground level (agl) to 1 nautical mile (nm) away from the runway.
Upon touchdown, the Cessna C152 landed smoothly on runway 08, which has a length of 7,393 feet. The threshold height was good, indicating that the pilot had adequately configured the aircraft for landing. However, the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 51 knots, suggesting a momentary deviation from perfect approach speed control.
One of the highlights of the landing was the touchdown distance, which was 876 feet, well within a safe range. The touchdown speed was also well-managed at 30 knots, further contributing to the smooth landing. The rate of descent at touchdown was -129 feet per minute, a controlled and safe rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were mostly favorable. The temperature was a comfortable 68°F, and the wind was light, blowing at a speed of 3 knots at 218°. As a result, the crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 2 knots each, reducing the complexity of the landing operation.
As the Cessna C152 continued down the runway after touchdown, the pilot maintained excellent rollout alignment, a testament to the well-executed landing strategy. The total landing distance was 2,284 feet, accounting for just 31% of the runway length. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the pilot's approach and landing technique.
Overall, the Cessna C152 displayed impressive flying skills, and the landing was executed with precision and control. The 95.6% score reflects the pilot's mastery of the aircraft and their ability to adapt to the given weather conditions, making this a standout landing performance.
