Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,691 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,691 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 346 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Roanoke–Blacksburg Regional Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,120 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 12°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 268°. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile southwest of the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 2,176 feet above sea level to 37,785 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,609 feet in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 8 miles north of Cedar Rock, North Carolina, and lasting 16 minutes, covering a distance of 109 nautical miles. The enroute descent began overhead Walhalla, South Carolina, with the aircraft descending from 37,845 feet above sea level to 4,804 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,041 feet in 23 minutes and covering a distance of 107 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 3 miles west of Douglasville, Georgia, and lasting 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The enroute descent started overhead the 25GA Miller Farm Airport, with the aircraft descending from 4,026 feet above sea level to 2,301 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,725 feet in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08L at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport took place from the west, with the aircraft heading 90° at 4 nautical miles and 1,273 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 08L took place on a runway length of 2,738 meters, with the threshold height being well above the target and the threshold speed being slightly below the target at 116 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 346 meters, with the touchdown speed at 108 knots also being good. However, the touchdown rate was heavy at -670 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.8 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 110°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,601 meters, accounting for 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 343 nautical miles, taking a total of 75 minutes and using 2,634 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed on runway 08L at KATL Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, achieving an overall score of 85.3%. The final approach to the runway was initiated from the west, heading 90.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,273 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 108 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown distance of 346 meters was also considered good. However, the touchdown rate was slightly heavy at -670 feet per minute (fpm), indicating that the aircraft may have experienced a slight impact upon touchdown.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.8 meters, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 3 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,601 meters was 58% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled path after touchdown.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the Airbus A319 aircraft demonstrated a high level of proficiency and control during the final approach and touchdown phases. The slight misalignment of the touchdown position and the heavy touchdown rate were the only notable issues, but these were not severe enough to compromise the safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
