Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,929 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,929 m of the 4,095 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 251 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 22L at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,805 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 163 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 25°C temperature and a wind speed of 13 knots at 280 degrees. The crosswind was 13 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile south east of Romulus, Michigan, where the aircraft ascended from 1,686 feet above sea level to 36,562 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,876 feet in 13 minutes, covering a distance of 132 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile west of the 34IN Windy P Ridge Airport in Portland, Indiana. This phase lasted for 28 minutes and covered a distance of 593 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 3 miles south of Eagletown, Oklahoma, where it descended from 37,150 feet above sea level to 6,647 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,503 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 2 miles north west of Prosper, Texas, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The final descent began 2 miles north west of Lincoln Park, Texas, where the aircraft descended from 5,934 feet above sea level to 1,861 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,074 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 17C at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, heading 180 degrees at an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 134 knots, which was slightly fast. The touchdown distance was 251 meters, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 26°C temperature. The total landing distance was 1,852 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 10 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 877 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 77 minutes. The aircraft used 5,623 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 17C at KDFW Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, achieving a high score of 97.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's final approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 138 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 251 meters, which is within the expected range. However, the touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly faster than the recommended speed, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -380 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
One area for improvement was the runway touchdown position, which was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline. This may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C. The total landing distance of 1,852 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot's performance was commendable, with only minor areas for improvement.
