Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,329 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 424 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking to the runway at KHPN Westchester County Airport, which took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 16, with a takeoff distance of 429 meters, which was 21% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 95 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 0 knots. After departing from KHPN, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting overhead Purchase, New York. The climb took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 37 nautical miles, with an increase in altitude from 1,413 feet above sea level to 22,971 feet above sea level.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of Woodbridge, Connecticut, and lasted for 10 minutes, covering a distance of 52 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles east of CT43 Spruce Airport Jewett City, Connecticut. The descent took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 55 nautical miles, with a decrease in altitude from 22,470 feet above sea level to 1,288 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 04R at KBOS Logan International Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 20.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,263 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 04R was successful, with a touchdown distance of 422 meters, which was 26% of the runway length. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 68 knots, and the threshold speed was too high at 85 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot at 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 0 knots. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.1 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 16.2 meters from the centreline. The total landing distance was 613 meters.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 153 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 48 minutes. The aircraft used 182 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed on runway 04R at KBOS Logan International Airport, achieving a score of 93.2%. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 20.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,329 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly too high at 85 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 422 meters was within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 68 knots was a bit faster than ideal, but the touchdown rate of -95 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
During the landing, the aircraft slightly deviated from the centerline, with a runway touchdown position misalignment of 6.1 meters. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind.
The total landing distance of 613 meters was 26% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 16.2 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation from the desired path. Overall, the Vision Jet aircraft demonstrated a good performance during the landing, with some minor deviations from ideal parameters.
