Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 6,648 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,223 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 17R at KRNO Reno Tahoe International Airport. The takeoff distance was 5,176 feet, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 54°F and winds of 5 knots at 197 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 4 knots. After departing from KRNO, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of the airport and rising from 5,454 feet above sea level to 35,041 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 92 nautical miles and took 15 minutes, with an increase of 29,587 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles northwest of Yosemite Valley and lasted for 27 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 189 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 4 miles southwest of Pine Mountain Club and lasted for 23 minutes, with the aircraft descending from 35,084 feet above sea level to 1,347 feet above sea level. This descent covered a distance of 83 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, KLGB Long Beach Airport (Daugherty Field), it began its final approach to runway 30 from the southeast, heading 315.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,282 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a threshold speed slightly above the target at 138 knots. The touchdown point was 864 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 131 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -207 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at KLGB were characterized by a temperature of 65°F and winds of 2 knots at 230 degrees. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 0 knots. The total landing distance was 4,229 feet, which accounted for 64% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 371 nautical miles and took 77 minutes, using 6,596 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at KLGB Long Beach Airport (Daugherty Field) with a score of 95.7%. The final approach to runway 30 was initiated from the south east, heading 315.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being satisfactory. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 138 kt, indicating a slight deviation from the optimal landing speed. The touchdown point was located 864 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance but could be improved upon.
The touchdown speed of 131 kt was a little fast, which may have contributed to the slightly above-target threshold speed. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -207 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, indicating a relatively smooth descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and precision during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 65°F and a wind speed of 2 kt at 230°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 kt, while the headwind component was negligible at 0 kt. The total landing distance of 4,229 feet was 64% of the runway length, which is a relatively efficient use of the available runway.
During the rollout, the aircraft maintained excellent alignment with the runway, indicating a high degree of control and stability. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 95.7% reflecting the minor deviations from the optimal landing parameters.
