Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,795 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 364 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport, a process that took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 06R, with a takeoff distance of 1,475 meters, which was 37% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 165 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of -6°C, with a wind speed of 16 knots at 100°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,196 feet above sea level to 23,009 feet above sea level, an increase of 21,814 feet, in just 9 minutes and covering a distance of 50 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 23 nautical miles, starting 3 miles southwest of Wiesenburg, Germany.
The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 23,008 feet above sea level to 23,912 feet above sea level, an increase of 904 feet, in just 2 minutes and covering a distance of 12 nautical miles, as it passed overhead Zuchau, Germany. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which lasted for 11 minutes and covered a distance of 77 nautical miles, starting 1 mile southwest of Schackenthal, Germany.
As the aircraft began its descent, it started from an altitude of 23,986 feet above sea level and descended to 1,857 feet above sea level, a decrease of 22,128 feet, in 24 minutes and covering a distance of 134 nautical miles, as it passed overhead Dorndorf, Germany. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 07L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, flying from the southwest and heading 69.0° at an altitude of 1,507 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft landed safely on runway 07L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, which had a length of 2,795 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 133 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 364 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 132 knots, and the touchdown rate was hard at -460 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 4°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 81°.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 307 nautical miles, and the flight took a total of 72 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 2,827 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 07L at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF) with a score of 96.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 69.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,507 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was within the acceptable range at 133 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to a harder touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -460 feet per minute (fpm) was considered hard, indicating that the aircraft may have touched down with a bit too much force.
Despite the slightly fast touchdown speed, the aircraft's runway touchdown alignment was very good, which is essential for a smooth and controlled landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 4 knots from 81°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach.
The total landing distance of 1,390 meters was 50% of the runway length, indicating that the aircraft landed within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing phase. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and rolling out smoothly on the runway.
