Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,525 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,525 m of the 2,227 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 280 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 30 at the Comox Valley Airport / CFB Comox, located in British Columbia, Canada. The CRJ900 aircraft accelerated down the runway, covering a distance of 1,423 meters, which was 47% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 165 knots, marking the start of the takeoff phase.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 23°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 279°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The enroute climb phase began overhead the Comox Valley Airport / CFB Comox, where the aircraft lifted off from an altitude of 1,152 feet above sea level. The climb continued to an altitude of 21,926 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,774 feet in just 9 minutes, covering a distance of 22 nautical miles.
Following the climb phase, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 8 miles east of the Texada Gillies Bay Airport on Texada Island. This phase lasted for 18 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 122 nautical miles. The cruise phase was followed by a descent phase, which began 15 miles west of Merritt, British Columbia. The descent from 21,831 feet above sea level to 2,614 feet above sea level took 19 minutes, covering a distance of 72 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 34 at the Kelowna International Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 360° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,225 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 34, which had a length of 2,227 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was achieved at 135 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, at 281 meters, and the touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was within the acceptable range.
However, the touchdown rate was fair, at -294 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline, by 9.4 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 20°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 225°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 0 knots. The total landing distance was 1,447 meters, which was 65% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline, by 8.6 meters.
In conclusion, the flight was completed with a total distance of 222 nautical miles, taking 49 minutes to complete. The aircraft used 1,648 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at CYLW Kelowna International Airport, achieving a score of 96.0%. The final approach was conducted from the south, heading 360.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,225 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 34, which has a length of 2,227 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 135 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled approach. The touchdown distance of 281 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 125 knots was slightly below the expected value, which may indicate a slightly longer than necessary approach.
The touchdown rate of -294 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair, suggesting that the aircraft may have experienced a slight loss of altitude during the touchdown. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 225°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, and there was no headwind. The total landing distance of 1,447 meters was 65% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the braking or steering. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 96.0% indicating a high level of proficiency.
