Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,795 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 239 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 01 at Keflavik International Airport (BIKF). The takeoff distance was 1,423 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 168 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile west of Reykjanesbaer in Sudurnes, Iceland. The climb took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 99 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,225 feet above sea level to 28,007 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,782 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 10 miles north of Vik i Myrdal in Sudurland, Iceland. This phase lasted for 89 minutes and covered a distance of 212 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started at a latitude of 62.7050914 and a longitude of -11.3162067. The descent took 26 minutes and covered a distance of 117 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 28,065 feet above sea level to 554 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,511 feet.
The final approach to runway 12 at Vagar Airport (EKVG) was made from the north-west, with a heading of 118.0 degrees at an altitude of 288 feet above ground level and 1 nautical mile from the runway. The landing was made on runway 12, which had a length of 1,795 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 152 knots. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 150 knots, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -668 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.8 meters.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots from a direction of 0 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 10 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,323 meters, which accounted for 74% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took just 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 435 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 83 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 3,904 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at EKVG Vágar Airport, with a final approach from the north-west direction. The aircraft was at an altitude of 288 feet above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway when it began its descent. The heading of 118.0° ensured a precise approach to runway 12.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 150 kt, which was slightly faster than the recommended threshold speed of 152 kt. However, the touchdown distance of 239 meters was within the acceptable range, indicating a well-executed landing. The touchdown rate of -668 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down with a bit too much force.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.8 meters, which may have been due to a minor deviation in the pilot's control during the final stages of the landing. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control after touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 4°C and a wind speed of 11 kt from a direction of 0°. The crosswind component was 10 kt, while the tailwind component was 5 kt. These conditions were not particularly challenging for the aircraft, and the pilots were able to execute a safe and controlled landing.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 93.0%. While there were some minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, the pilots were able to compensate and execute a safe and controlled touchdown.
