Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,007 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 584 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Milano Linate Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 36, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 140 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 90 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb from an initial altitude of 417 meters above sea level to a maximum altitude of 10,504 meters above sea level, an increase of 10,087.9 meters. This climb phase took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 78 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 109 nautical miles, starting 10 miles south west of Portofino, Italy.
The enroute descent phase began 5 miles north east of Ota, France, and took 20 minutes to complete, during which the aircraft descended from a maximum altitude of 10,535 meters above sea level to a final altitude of 423 meters above sea level, a decrease of 10,111.7 meters. This descent phase covered a distance of 100 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at Alghero-Fertilia Airport was made from the north east, with the aircraft heading 205.0 degrees at an altitude of 396.9 meters above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,007 meters, and the threshold height was above the target height. The touchdown speed was 134 knots, which was slightly faster than the target speed, and the touchdown rate was fair at -1.2 meters per second. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 209 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 10 knots. The total landing distance was 1,435 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 297 nautical miles and took 63 minutes to complete, using 2,095 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LIEA Alghero-Fertilia Airport, with a score of 91.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 205.0° at an altitude of 396.9 meters above ground level (agl) and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The final approach was conducted at a suitable distance from the runway, allowing the pilots to maintain control and make any necessary adjustments.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 20, which has a length of 3,007 meters. The threshold height at 20.4 meters agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired when it reached the threshold. However, the threshold speed was good, at 137 knots, indicating that the pilots had maintained a suitable speed during the approach.
The touchdown point was 169 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly further than ideal. The touchdown speed of 134 knots was a little fast, indicating that the pilots may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to reduce the touchdown speed. The touchdown rate of -1.2 meters per second was fair, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing relatively smoothly.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a slight drift during the landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout and bring it to a stop in a straight line.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were suitable, with a temperature of 18°C and a wind of 10 knots at 209°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 10 knots, which may have helped to slow the aircraft down during the approach. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of touchdown speed and alignment.
