Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,403 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 729 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at Diagoras Airport, taking 8 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24, with a takeoff distance of 1,509 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 160 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Diagoras Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 17°C temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 140 degrees. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile west of the airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,058 feet above sea level to 30,605 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,547 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 80 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise 19 miles north of Astypalaia Airport, lasting 4 minutes and covering 31 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 16 miles north of Amorgos, with the aircraft descending from 30,993 feet above sea level to 5,921 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,072 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 84 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise 4 miles southeast of Karystos, lasting 2 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile northeast of Marmarion, with the aircraft descending from 5,920 feet above sea level to 1,592 feet above sea level, a decrease of 4,328 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21L at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport was made from the northeast, heading 217.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,304 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,403 meters, with the threshold height at 78 feet above ground level being well above the target. The threshold speed was also well above the target at 145 knots.
The touchdown point was 265 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with the touchdown speed at 137 knots being a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -392 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 20°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 220 degrees, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,286 meters, accounting for 38% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 227 nautical miles, taking 57 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,111 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 21L at LGAV Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 217.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,304 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down 265 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation. The touchdown speed of 137 knots was slightly above the target, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to fully arrest the aircraft's descent before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -392 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting that the aircraft's wheels made contact with the runway with a moderate amount of force.
The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 8.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a combination of factors including wind, pilot error, or a navigation issue. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 11 knots from 220°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 11 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's misalignment.
The total landing distance of 1,286 meters was 38% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the same factors that contributed to the initial touchdown misalignment.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas for improvement, including reducing the touchdown speed, improving the runway alignment, and minimizing the deviation from the designated touchdown zone.
