Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,881 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 321 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 17R at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,670 meters, which was 42% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 129 degrees. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was also 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of Satolas-et-Bonce, France. The climb took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 114 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,818 feet above sea level to 35,034 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,215 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northeast of Toutry, France. This phase lasted for 39 minutes and covered a distance of 291 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north of Collier Row, England. The descent took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 34,508 feet above sea level to 1,903 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,606 feet.
The final approach to runway 27 at Bristol Airport was made from the east, with the aircraft heading 267.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,278 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 1,881 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 138 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 320 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 131 knots. The touchdown rate was good at -197 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 9 knots at 10 degrees. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,028 meters, which was 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 520 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 95 minutes. The aircraft used 3,379 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at EGGD Bristol Airport, achieving a score of 96.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 267.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, taking into account the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 6°C and wind speeds of 9 kt at 10°.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 27, which has a length of 1,881 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 kt. The touchdown distance of 320 meters was within acceptable limits, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown speed of 131 kt was slightly faster than desired, which may have been due to the pilot's attempt to maintain control and stability during the landing.
The aircraft's touchdown rate of -197 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating a controlled and stable descent. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system.
The local weather conditions, including a 9 kt crosswind and a 2 kt tailwind, presented a moderate challenge for the pilot. However, the pilot successfully managed the aircraft's descent and landing, demonstrating good control and stability. The total landing distance of 1,028 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway, was within acceptable limits.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot had successfully maintained control and stability throughout the landing process. Overall, the Airbus A320's landing at EGGD Bristol Airport was a success, with the pilot demonstrating good skills and control in challenging weather conditions.
